Today's APOD is a jaw-dropper. I love a good globular cluster, and I've observed M15 countless times with binoculars and telescopes. This deep image (with added foreground gas and dust) is just spectacular.

Looking at my solar panel data output is fascinating. The 16C swing from Tuesday night's temperature to last night is obvious in the frequency that my central heating turned on (orange downward spikes. Left is Tuesday night, right is Wednesday night. Key for the other colours is in the second image.

Apparently, the colour is caused by electrons displaced by the radiation. Heating the halite allows electrons to fill the spaces that were left, and the colour will fade to white / clear again.
More halite, this time with a beautiful cobalt-blue coloration from radiation in situ.

Even though Half Life 2 came out over 20 years ago, "We don't go to Ravenholm ..." still sends shivers down my spine. Such a great game.
