Books about “Asian wife sharing.” Detailed descriptions of orgies. Scenes involving “ladyboys.”

That’s what @dfriedman.bsky.social discovered on a Goodreads page tied to the email address of a top Pentagon official and mentor to Pete Hegseth.

What came next was even wilder.
I asked the Pentagon about Pete Hegseth's mentor. Then the threats started.

As a pediatrician, let me say this about both RFK jr and Trump with regard to their knowledge about the health of children. They are ignorant, biased and extremely dangerous. They are both accessories to murder of children in the US and around the world and deserve to be prosecuted for that.

It turns out, when you mix the 2016 video of Pete Hegseth talking about troops not following unlawful orders with the recent Democratic PSA on the same subject, their message flows together pretty seamlessly.

Let’s pause to remember how very long the US (and Republicans especially) have been meddling in Central America to create dysfunctional dictatorships and client states and the conditions that drive millions to migrate… to the US! Where they are now treated as enemy invaders.

There’s one person squarely to blame for Trump’s corruption, authoritarianism & assault on democracy: John Roberts. He’s enabled so much of Trump’s lawlessness while somehow escaping accountability for it

🧵 This piece captures a core problem of the hollow democratic state: politics has become performance, optimised for visibility, not understanding.
Farage is winning because politics has been reduced to clickbait.

It’s a shallow spectacle that favours clowns and con-artists.

As @jemmaforte.bsky.social says here - politics has been “repackaged into junk food.”

But there are ways for the left to fight back 👇🏻

The Founders knew Congress - especially the House - was the backbone of U.S. democracy. It should be a huge story that Mike Johnson, serving Trump, has all but shut it down

Of course not, @washingtonpost.com. The irrationality is the point. The struggle is the point. There is no end game — it’s an endless game. That’s how fascism works. You still don’t get it.

“Franklin Roosevelt’s words of November 4, 1938, are worth recalling:

“‘I venture the challenging statement that if American democracy ceases to move forward as a living force, seeking day and night by peaceful means to better the lot of our citizens, fascism will grow in strength in our land.’”
