“And gently, far away, Curiosity the Rover keeps trundling along across the endless hills and fields of Mars. As it potters around on the red planet, it sings old Muppet songs to itself. And somewhere it found googly eyes, and fit on its face.”

“Did you bring them?” the red-robed wizard asked.
“Yes,” Orland said and coughed, still pale. “Ten compassions captured during commuter hour. Five good dreams in dark times. One piece of love that became true. All there.”
“Good. This will buy you safe passage.”

“And we will dance, we will dance, we will dance until one day our marriage in this lifetime ends and we move on to the next. And while we dance, all the other us in parallel dimensions will be dancing too, with a love that kisses time itself.”

Minneapolis ghost cars
owned by the lost
hearts ripped out
sculptures to panic
owners vanished, leaving
soft toys, cold coffee, the children
taken as bait.
Cars empty, waiting
like abandoned dogs
for those ghosted by ICE
to maybe
one day
come back,
and drive again.

From one poet to another. From one human to another.

For Renée Good

This poem
won´t change anything.
It won´t change the injustice
or the grief, it won´t
stop tears or heal screams of rage.

But maybe
it will make me stand up
and move
and change things.

"And every night, after matinées and laughs and shows, he sat there at the table, known by his new name, Pierrot. The old one he still tried to forget, aided by gin and the lapping Mediterranean waves. And every night, Esmeralda the Fire Juggler was there, pining."

The chaos and the sadness of our current time are at least allowing us some good memes.

It´s been a couple of years since I needed to have this meme around for global events, but . . . Well. Here we are.

“It was the time of the solar winds. From all corners of Andar Rarda they came, the poets gathering to perform in front of millions. The winner would have their poem writ in purple magic and gold to cradle the biggest sun, to prolong its life a little further.”

“Mei Mei looked out over the scene. It had taken her five years to learn the eight obvious talismans from the Feng Shui sorcerer, and then the eight hidden ones. Now she would finally write all 16 across the sky and crush the village and it´s inhabitants to dust.”

“Yes, yes, alright. But be quick about it. We have a rebellion to win. I know Leia wants all this documented but we have landers heading to Endor, a fighter screen spread throughout the entire sector, and my X-wing is idling. Artists. Really.”

“Guiseppi groaned as he lifted the next heavy box of are. Che due scatole! But it was great. Of course it was great; gentrification had come and his lovingly curated, organic, artisanal and Italian nonna traditional ares were finally in huge demand.”

"Linda looked at the scene. Yes. It was time. Today, she would get lost in the blueness on the canal. She would find an empty bench, perhaps near an ancient dog walker with an equally ancient dog, open the book, step inside, and vanish forever."

I didn´t quite expect to live in a time where WWIII is beginning to look worryingly likely, but there we go.

People walking around in Sarajevo on that nice, sunny June day in 1914 probably weren´t expecting what was to come either.

I asked you, a refugee from war
in Syria to read
Chinese poet Du Fu, a refugee
from civil war 1300 years ago.
“Yes,” you said. “This is what I saw.”

In 2026, a finger of greed
reaches out
to launch the first missile
in a streak of fire and grief.

I also hope this is the year I finally get lucky with more great finds on reduced bus seats. Brilliant to add to the living room.

Well, it´s another year now. Hopefully I won´t have to fight Connor MacCow this year either, but at least it´s more time to find the perfect quintuple espresso. And the Prize, obvs. But mostly the espresso. The 14th century really sucked when it came to espresso.

“You are really sure about this? That this is the right place to wait for the 6.49 train train replacement bus? Really? Alright, alright. I trust you. Sorry. But please tell me again, how could the station be sucked into a passing black hole?”

Leonard the Capybara looked through the scope. Yep. He just needed to shoot the metal dart over to the building, have it expand into the stone safely, then zip line above Paris traffic through the window for the diamonds. If Ethan Hunt could do it, so could he!
