Digital Humanities and medieval studies. More to come...
Like many DH colleagues, I've been testing the vibe coding waters. As a case study, I ended up re-engineering Andrew Goldstone's dfr-browser for exploring topic models. github.com/scottkleinma... It has a bright new look, a lot of new features, and it's hopefully easier to use. +

The evisceration of pre-modern scholarly communities continues apace. Just FYI: history only goes back about 250 years.
ACLS Awards for this coming year: www.acls.org/recent-fello.... Congrats to all! Just wanted to flag that there are ZERO medieval projects here and only TWO premodern at all. No idea of this reflects proportions of submissions received, but, yea, that's where we are.

Kicking off my #DayofDH chatting with wonderful Cal State folks about how to sustain and grow our system-wide Digital Humanities consortium (@dhatcsu.bsky.social). We're exploring ways we can pool our collective expertise and energy to support each other

My #DayOfDH2024 is mostly devoted to dealing with teaching and advising tasks put on hold for the Thanksgiving holiday. But I'm going to try to squeeze in some work on Lexos, including tasks suggested by my code reviewers at DHTech (dh-tech.github.io).

There's plenty of💰for things mgmt wants for themselves, like raises & shiny projects to advance their careers. But when it comes to paying a living wage, creating safe learning/research spaces & supporting our most vulnerable, they plead poverty. Budgets 👏 are 👏 moral 👏 docs. Support our strike!
The California Faculty Association, repping faculty, librarians & coaches across the 23 campuses of the California State University (CSU), is preparing for an unprecedented, systemwide strike Jan 22-26 w Teamsters Local 2010. The CSU is the largest public 4yr uni system in the US. This will be huge✊

The Cal State system is set to go on strike. As far as I can tell, system admins have made no effort to lobby the State for more funding. I've already assumed that the first week of classes will be cancelled. Now I have to guess how many more weeks to remove from my syllabus.

The California Faculty Association is calling for a strike Jan 22-26 across the California State University, the largest public university system in the US. It is sad, but salaries have now fallen so far below inflation that faculty cannot carry on as usual.
