Fascinating insight, and perhaps a good proxy for the answer to the question of what is the role of government. But is it _an_ answer, or _the_ answer?

If your head spins over the hypocrisy of the Trump/GOP response to the war plan leak, this will help explain it.

The old rules, norms, etc. don't apply any more. And they are in charge of defining the new rules and norms (at least they are if the rest of the country cedes that authority to them).

Since Mitch McConnell announced that he will not run for reelection, many have described him as “liberated.” Indeed, McConnell voted against more Trump nominees than any other GOP member. Mark Leibovich met the senator to find out if he feels freer now:

Representatives of the people afraid of the people they represent. How sad.
The chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee told GOP lawmakers to stop having in-person town halls with constituents. The directive comes as Republican town halls have devolved into angry shouting matches across the U.S.

A reminder of the legacy that was bequeathed to Pres Trump. A legacy of peace not war, of honor and sacrifice not self-enrichment and self-aggrandizement, as a force for good not evil. A legacy he has squandered in a weeks, supported by the GOP and the MAGA cult nationwide. Bewildering. Sad. h/t PK

Utterly, unreservedly, shameful. I had hoped we were finally recognizing the fundamental equality of all people, but apparently Iowa Republicans feel so threatened that they have to legislate their superiority. What's next, making them wear a badge with a T on it?

As much as I condemn the Trump/Vance humiliation of Zelensky, why are Starmer and Macron only now proposing a peace plan? Leaders lead, they don't wait for others to flame out. Better late than never I suppose, but it gives Trump the opportunity to say 'see, it never would have happened without me'.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain said Sunday that he would work with the leaders of Ukraine and France on a cease-fire plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, as Europe reels from President Trump’s confrontation with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.
