Speaking of fundamental presumptions. In another book, the Taggerung, you have an Otter raised by "vermin" and he turns out good in the end.
And any of the crimes he did when he was "bad" were done to other vermin, so stealing and murder don't count as long as you go after the right outgroup.

It was a ferret, but yeah. It deliberately went out of its way to say he was born evil, even though he was adopted by Redwall as a baby. It’s genuinely fucked when you have even a second’s thought about the series’ fundamental presumptions.
