"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."

Readers are leaders. The best #crisis leaders have context and awareness. They're able to draw on extensive knowledge so that they don't have to make up solutions. Instead, they borrow from a body of knowledge to recreate success. Sometimes #resilience looks like a full bookshelf.

There's a lot of #crisis frameworks out there and a lot of them are written by ex-uniform types who only live in operations mode (love you all, for real).

Business leaders need to be in the #resilience mindset. Accept that crises may happen and have plans to avoid them, not grind through them.

Just taking a moment to extol the virtues of the semi-colon; however, some may disagree, or dislike it; others may enjoy it, use it, and celebrate it; and, yet more may be indifferent.
But I love it.
Thank you, semi-colon. You’re not a half-measure to me.

Train your crisis management teams with realistic scenarios that reflect potential disruptions. Hands-on practice builds confidence, reduces errors, and ensures everyone knows how to act under pressure.
Everybody loses when everybody wins in an exercise.

How you say it is as important as what you say. Maintain calm, clear, and factual communication. Empathy paired with awareness and authority reinforces confidence and trust.

Cloud systems, automation, and secure remote access are not just conveniences—they are #resilience multipliers. Adopt tools that support continuity when the unexpected hits. And then adopt backups.

Team Japan won the MLB #WorldSeries. The season started there, and Yamamoto finished it here in #Toronto. Heartbroken for my @torontobluejays.bsky.social and at the same time, in awe of his talent.

A resilient organization is only as strong as its people. Prioritize mental health, support flexible working arrangements, and ensure employees feel safe and valued. Healthy teams recover faster and perform better under pressure.

The After-Action Review or Post-Incident Review is a necessity for mature organizations. After every challenge, pause. What worked? What failed? Be honest. Continuous reflection transforms crises into strategic learning opportunities.

In #Canada, financial institutions are required to have third-party risk plans.

Strong relationships with suppliers/service providers can make or break continuity.

Cultivate partnerships and specify service level agreements before #crisis strikes.

Years of leadership development work has taught me one thing: teams perform best when they understand their roles and are trusted to act. Train staff, share responsibilities, and encourage problem-solving at all levels. Resilient organizations empower their people. #Resilience #Leadership #Crisis

Cash flow and reserves are lifelines.

Maintain accessible reserves and scenario-based budgeting to weather disruptions without panic. Your whole business can't be about crisis and resilience (unless you're like me!), but you're going to need a bit of padding.

Every disruption is data. Learn, iterate, and implement improvements. Post-incident reviews are not blame exercise: they're blueprints for a stronger, smarter organization.

Mature leaders and teams take the time to critique their performance so that everybody succeeds when it counts.

Unexpected events expose hidden weaknesses. Run tabletop exercises, stress-test processes, and explore “what if” scenarios. #Resilience grows when potential disruptions are mapped before they happen.

#Resilience is about anticipating challenges before they hit, and responding to them effectively. Build systems that are flexible, train teams that are empowered, and embed strategic foresight and data review into daily operations. Strong preparation today means stability tomorrow.

Leadership under pressure defines your organization.

Clear communication and decisive action turn uncertainty into success.

But the best #crisis leaders speak with empathy and calm.

Cultivate leaders who can guide teams through turbulence without losing trust.

🧵 It's essential to provide transparent, timely updates to stakeholders in the midst of a #crisis.

Stakeholders notice when an organization communicates honestly and proactively. #Tylenol is a classic (and now modern) example of building and maintaining trust in a crisis.

Complex, systemic failures can't be simplified. When leaders retell them as if caused by a single factor, they erase the very lessons complexity was trying to teach.

#Risk maps show us hazards, and they tell stories about what an organization values. The blind spots of today’s maps are often tomorrow’s crises.

If you're in government, you should be all over demographic data.

If you're in industry, all of your exposures need mapping.

False certainty is dangerous comfort. Leaders who preserve curiosity under pressure keep the field of possibilities open, even as others demand closure.

I worry for the wellbeing of employees and companies when I see red-faced managers barking out orders.
