#Hidradenitis suppurativa (acne inversa) is linked to #diabetes mellitus. In the affected, #SPINA-GR is reduced and not compensated by #SPINA-GBeta, resulting in low #SPINA-DI. This phenomenon may be mediated by #inflammation, as shown by ties to #haptoglobin.

The method of structure parameter inference approach, i.e. #SPINA-Thyr and #SPINA_Carb, has predictive power in the setting of #P4_medicine. In a large population sample, four SPINA parameters, #SPINA-GT, #SPINA-GD, #SPINA-GBeta and #SPINA-DI, predicted all-cause mortality.

In an unselected population sample (NHANES 2009/2010), persons with low thyroid's secretory capacity (SPINA-GT) and total step-up deiodinase activity (SPINA-GD) face significantly worse survival over 10 years. In an unselected population sample (NHANES 2009/2010), persons with low beta-cell function (SPINA-GBeta) and static disposition index (SPINA-DI) are faced with significantly shorter survival over 10 years.

The disposition index of #insulin-glucose #homeostasis is an estimate for its loop gain. Its determination used to be complex, requiring clamp, IVGTT or OGTT experiments. We have developed a fasting-based method that is simpler and better 🧪🩺

Which programming language is fit for high-performance computer simulations in biomedical #cybernetics? We found that #Free_Pascal generates faster code than S/R and #Python. Interestingly, Object #Pascal even outperforms #Swift and C++. 🧪🩺

Simulation speed with implementations in different programming languages. Shown is the time needed to simulate a first-order linear feedback loop (A) and a zeroth-order MiMe-NoCoDI loop (B) dependent on the number of iterations (proportional to simulated time, abscissa) based on implementations of the simulation program and the CyberUnits Bricks library in S, Python, Swift, C++ and Object Pascal. The ordinate is logarithmically scaled and represents the mean of 10 replications of each number of iteration steps.
