Fun fact: Harry Truman vetoed the Taft-Hartley Act, calling it a "slave-labor bill."

Unfortunately, the majority of his party in Congress disagreed with that assessment and voted to pass the legislation anyway.

Notable opponents included progressive Vito Marcantonio & populist Wayne Morse.

Far from being a consequence of the Red Scares, racial divides were manufactured by the state to defend against the ultimate threat: a multiracial labor movement and a collective class consciousness transcending artificial segmentation.

My newest piece:

Stop Being a Spectator
A Marxist analysis of the Red Scares as a racial project: “Americanism,” the “alien radical,” deportations, blacklists, and the crushing of solidarity.

Workers don’t lack power. They lack organization.

New piece: where union power actually comes from, and how solidarity unionism rebuilds it on the shop floor.

Direct action. Rank-and-file control. Practical tactics.

What do Marxist tactics look like in the 21st century, especially in the imperial core?

Might as well put all that military spending to good use.

I've gotten my dad to accept socialism in everything but name, and I am very open about my writing and socialist views on campus, which to be fair, I think is preventing me from the school employing me, but classmates and fellow students are receptive.

The students yearn for socialism.
socialism is the moderate position now

Fascism didn’t die in 1945, it changed shape. My new essay looks at how it works today: the U.S. state fused with big capital, surveillance everywhere, democracy managed so it serves the few.

Dropping tomorrow, 1/26 at 8:30AM EST.

This is state terror, plain and simple. ICE is a paramilitary arm of the ruling class, wielded to crush dissent and enforce the interests of capital.

Alex’s death is not an accident. We cannot mourn quietly. We must rise, organize, and confront the institutions that kill to protect profit and power

Michael Parenti is gone. He didn’t make Marxism respectable, he made it useful. A short tribute to the thinker who taught us to see through lies, analyze power, and think clearly.

Rest in Power, Dr. Parenti ✊😢

A lot of Marxist debate today is just sub-ideological score-settling: who’s orthodox, who betrayed whom. I care less about lineage and more about usefulness.

Marxism should help us understand and defeat capitalism, not police its own library.

This is a good essay. If you don't read it, you're ignorant.
If capitalism is so irrational and crisis-ridden, why do people keep consenting to it?

This essay looks at Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony: how consent is produced through common sense, institutions, and everyday life.
