GDP per capita has doubled in all three Baltic states since 2000. Incomes have not just doubled in terms of GDP per capita; median incomes have also doubled. Poverty rates are lower, and life satisfaction is higher.

In 1961, around two chickens were slaughtered per person globally each year. As many countries grew richer — and richer countries tend to eat more meat — global demand for chicken increased.

American homicide victims are mostly men, except when the killer is an intimate partner—

Seeing buy-now-pay-later everywhere — electronics stores, bike shops, even the dentist — makes me worry we’re normalising debt for basic purchases. When people inevitably get in trouble, the profits stay private and the costs get dumped on the rest of us.

Als de VVD van Yesilgöz *per se* niet met GL-PvdA wil, dan kunnen D66, CDA en GL-PvdA ook samen een minderheidskabinet vormen. Zij kunnen voor meerderheden zowel naar links als naar rechts kijken — en daar vooraf heldere afspraken over maken.

Als de VVD niet met GL-PvdA wil en D66 niet met JA21, ligt een minderheidskabinet voor de hand. Een formatie van acht maanden met de dubbeldemissionaire 'regering' van VVD en BBB is onaanvaardbaar.

De formatie is de afgelopen jaren verworden tot een nationaal tijdverdrijf. Nu dreigt het weer mis te gaan, want de VVD wil niet met GroenLinks-PvdA in zee. Nog niet zo lang geleden begreep die partij dat een compromis geen landverraad is, maar landsbehoud, schrijft @simonvanteutem.bsky.social.

Ongelooflijk: de gemeente Amsterdam ziet minder prullenbakken serieus als oplossing voor opengebroken prullenbakken.

Waarom geen plekken waar iedereen op elk moment tegen minimumloon kan werken aan een *schonere* stad, zodat de noodzaak van dit "werk" verdwijnt?
