Anne Rice's characters from The Vampire Chronicles as featured in the second novel in the series, "The Vampire Lestat". Nicolas de Lenfent (Nicki) and Lestat de Lioncourt in a colorful early evening in Paris. Nicolas plays the violin while Lestat holds out a hat for the passer-by for money. They stand on an empty corner with ivy crawling up the side of a building and the lamp shining down on the street. The violin case is open. Nicki somewhat blends into the building due to the soft shadow, all but his face, which is illuminated by the lamplight coming from around the corner. On the other side of him stands Lestat in a theatrical pose, the lamp from overhead illuminating him brightly like a spotlight on a stage. His expression is boyish and pleased.
