Some great stuff here. Thanks for the thread!

I'm going to rewatch Lone Star for eleventieth time tonight. Starts with a 20 year-old murder mystery. Weaves together 3 very different southwestern, intergenerational stories. Wraps up with some beautiful moments of connection, forgiveness & catharsis.
Making a list of films I haven’t seen so I can bring it out when we’re figuring out what to watch.

What are people’s favourite films? And if I haven’t seen it and deem it worthy then I’ll stick it on the list

Tom, this is incredibly disappointing. You need to treat your artists better.

I can't imagine a single version of this that appeals to me. But I can't stop imagining versions that will make my life harder.

I think this is where I'm at too. There is so much work to do right now. I need all my spoons to support my students, my community, & my family. There may be good reasons to make a "we're so cooked" post, but I don't have the resources to engage with them.
When ppl post "we're so cooked" or similar re whatever latest horror has raised its hoary head, I find I'm (mostly) like "yeah, I know, we know, we're cooked" & then I scroll on bc how often do I need to read a thing I already know? I find my scrolling stops for action/wisdom re next right steps.

So many awful things happening right now. It's hard to pick a least-favorite, but this one is near the top of the list.
It is really shitty watching people you love die of cancer as the federal government cancels research money and tells the lot of you to go fuck yourselves

I think I'm going to donate and send a screenshot of the receipt to my congressfolk (especially Mark Kelly and Reuben Gallego, who feel very centrist-adjacent right now). Maybe remind them more than once that I will donate and vote for anyone who primaries a centrist Democrat in my district.
anyway how do we all sign up for some giant Primary All Of Them campaign to give these people our money and scare the shit out of Dem leadership

One of the many, many things I wish Democrats would do is to launch a massive campaign explaining to the general public what government actually is, and where the money actually goes, including investments in science. Watching this unfold at NASA (etc.) has been like watching a slow murder.
NASA's at a crossroads - not only with the change in administration, but because of decades of systemic underinvestment in the agency's underpinnings, the Natl Academies say. I report for @natureastronomy.bsky.social - with insights from @caseydreier.bsky.social @drthomasz.bsky.social & others: 🔭🧪

BlueSky is trying to monetize so let's show them some numbers:

Reskeet this if you refuse to pay for BlueSky+ until trust & safety decides to prioritize marginalized users.

That's $96 / year of lost revenue for each reskeet...

In the last 30 years, I made wooden Christmas ornaments, drew lots of robots, wizards and monsters for board games, designed sippy cups, and taught doctors about design thinking. Now I'm figuring out final grades, writing research questions and editing grant proposals.

Creative careers are weird.

I have a new illustration project! "Unhappy Birthday at Castle Slogar" is a puzzle book, written by Mark Larsen and illustrated by me. It's based on the card game "Gloom", which I also illustrated, back in 2004.

I mostly a design professor now, but working on these projects is still a lot of fun.
