Excellent @naplic.bsky.social meeting of professionals interested in #DevLangDis in adulthood. Thanks @wordaware.bsky.social & @sieversslt.bsky.social 👏 Bringing together clinical and research discussions, with the aim of supporting adults with #DLD. Next meeting 30th Jan 2026 #BskySpeechies 🦋
DLD is not something that people grow out of, and in adulthood it can continue to have significant impacts. Especially when unsupported.
Rachel Sievers summarised her observations from her work with adults with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
We need services and awareness!

DLD is really very common. Way more common than other well know conditions such as autism.
DLD is a difficulty with using and understanding words and sentences.
And the biggest problem is that very few people have heard of it.

From our two specialist schools, we’ve seen how technology can help children with complex speech and language challenges.

But this is not a complete solution — Early years and school staff still need mandatory training in speech and language development.
