I’m going to my craziest friend’s 3-day bachelorette party this weekend and just found out that the first event STARTS at 9pm and also another event is a dance party the address of which “hasn’t been released yet.” My usual bedtime is 10pm please pray for me.

Choose 20 paintings that have stayed with you or influenced you — one painting a day (or thereabouts) for 20 days, no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just paintings.
1. The Young Saint John the Baptist by Piero di Cosimo. The Met.

Fitful sleep due to anxiety about the world—then waking to hear Steve Insk*ep struggling to discuss art on the radio. The wind is howling outside. I’m in the bad place.

It’s no coincidence that this manuscript involves copies of parts of the Encyclopédie—my personal rare book Vietnam.

I’m collating a manuscript and the first gathering is [1]38. It gets worse from there 🥴

Odyssey just looks like another greige slog that misses the point. But maybe I’ll be surprised!

I don’t really care about “accuracy” but I’m open to Fennell being able to capture the hot mess quality of Wuthering Heights in a way that other adaptations have failed, plus it looks camp as hell.

rn I’m pro “WH” and anti NolOdyssey. Fennell often disappoints but at least she makes movies that look compelling. Nolan made a boring movie about dreams.

Of course, he doesn’t mention ordination either so maybe that’s out too! He worked in the household of the Duke of Orléans and made a lot of manuscript copies of things.

I do actually know (sort of) some other things about this guy and he doesn’t seem to have had any children (widowed after two years), although far from certain on that. He just gives his own name as “M. Rigault, Pere” and then a list of life events (which includes deaths of his parents but no kids).

A stupid question: if all I know about some revolutionary era French guy is his last name + “pere”, does that just mean he was a priest? Could it mean anything else?

This sort of thing drives me bonkers.

Women had two major roles: domestic and ceremonial. Oh, and also manufacturing a product that was a load-bearing part of the region's economy, which is totally not a third important thing because it's a fiber and therefore definitionally domestic.

My name isn’t in it, but the fact that all the Kepler notes are absurdly long is a sign of my handiworks 😅

Just received a copy of the Pasachoff sale offprint catalog in the mail. I wrote a lot it—two years ago. A strange blast from the past.

It’s so great (and strangely prescient). Having now actually worked at Rockefeller Center, I only love it even more.

Kind of like how as a teen, I identified with Liz Lemon in 30 Rock as put-upon corporate stooge wearing blazers for some reason. But now I identify much more with Jenna and Tracy, because as an actual adult I just want to be a crazy person.

My dad had some of the books when I was a kid—he worked in a government office at the time. I think for me it was a kind of fascination about the adult world of work.
