Ex-farm worker here.

We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.

Not true AT ALL.

Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.

The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.

At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

@timkawakami.bsky.social maybe you can do a pod on the state of Sharks given that they will 2nd pick in the draft. Maybe with @brodiebrazil.bsky.social ?

Why is GCP so expensive compared to AWS?
I am interested in using GCP's Cloud Vision API. But, the cost of VMs, Storage, etc are 2x+ compared to AWS. Assume I run containers on VMs. Am I mistaken in understanding pricing? Is there someone that I can talk to about GCP

@timkawakami.bsky.social @anthonyvslater.bsky.social I would play Looney and Pat spencer instead of GP2 and Post.
I wouldn't mind TJD either - fresh legs and plays well with Pat

Four R senators and four R House members could announce they're caucusing with the Dems for now, and will vote for Schumer for Majority Leader and Jeffries for Speaker, because the threat to the rule of law is dire. Meanwhile, they'll work with Democrats to construct guardrails against dictatorship.

No tariffs (good). No taxes on some and reduced for some more +Tax cuts of $4-5 Trillion. So, how does the math for budget work? Is exponential increase in deficit the answer?
April 10, 2025 at 11:22 AM
Actually the president doesn't have the authority to put tariffs. It's actually congress duty. Is this announcement legal?

As an alum of the Justice Department unit that reviews EOs for form & legality--the Office of Legal Counsel--I've been watching the EOs & memoranda as they came out. What struck me most is the centralization of control and access. Things are happening so quickly that many haven't realized it yet.1/x

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

Student: Master, how do I get better at debugging?

Master foo: The primary tool for debugging is not a debugger; instead, it is staring intently at log files until they confess their sins.

Upon hearing these words, the student was enlightened.

Who’s the key to a startup’s success? HBR found VCs fall into two camps: team-first (“jockey”) or product-first (“horse”). Most bet on the jockey — because founders (usually a strong team) drive outcomes. As Peter Thiel put it: “We live and die by our founders.” 🐎

I find it hilarious that SSA wants in person verification but we can use AI to basically fire people and eliminate departments. Cost efficiencies for whom is a constant question that keeps coming up!!

Red states are Red as GOP worked hard to get govt $$$ to their states. With DOGE cutting all those, will they continue to stay Red?

SSN until recently (past decade) was issued to all international students under F1 visa. There is no guarantee that those are in the country and dead. Healthcare, financial systems depend on that info. They have paid taxes while they were legally here.
