The grant funds councils to provide a whole range of services to improve health and tackle inequalities.

This includes drug and alcohol, tobacco, and weight management services, as well as sexual health services, health visitors, and programmes to tackle some of the wider determinants of health. 2/

The details of the 2025/26 PH grant allocations are now available, including the £200m uplift announced first thing this morning.

However, the grant value is still 26% lower per person in real terms than 2015/16.

News! The public health grant has today received its first significant real-terms increase after a decade of neglect, something we - and others - have long been calling for.

But it's still 26% down on 2015/16.

The govt confirms councils' core spending will rise by 6.8% in 2025/26, compared w/ 6% previously announced, helping fund some vital services supporting good health. But given long-term underfunding & social care pressures councils will still turn to cuts & council tax rises to stabilise finances🧵

DHSC's now responded to the @houseoflords.parliament.uk 'Recipe for Health' report on how to fix our food system

The response includes:
-a new food strategy to come from Defra
-recognition that it needs a cross-gov approach
