To whom it may concern,

I am writing in response to the feedback issued on a recent dealer application. While rejection itself is neither surprising nor objectionable in a competitive selection process, the manner and substance of the commentary warrant scrutiny.

Opening with application volume reads less as context and more as deflection. High demand does not absolve staff of the responsibility to communicate professionally, nor does it justify dismissive or poorly framed critique.

The claim that digitally produced work is "very hard to do at-Con" reflects an outdated and narrow understanding of modern vendor practices. Hybrid and digitally driven workflows are not experimental edge cases. They are commonplace. Treating them as inherently unsuitable signals institutional stagnation, not applicant deficiency.

The aesthetic critique is particularly egregious. Describing an artist’s work as "10 to 15 years old," "rough," or likening it to improper brush usage is not constructive feedback. It is taste policing presented as authority. Style is not a timestamp, and disagreement with it does not constitute a lack of polish or relevance.

Finally, the suggestion that time away from the fandom is visibly detrimental crosses from critique into presumption. Artistic skill does not decay on a fandom participation schedule, and implying otherwise is both unprofessional and revealing.

If the intent is to curate a vendor space that adheres to a specific, narrow visual trend, that would be more honestly stated as such. What was provided instead reads as subjective judgment framed as objective evaluation.

Rejection must be communicated cleanly, respectfully, and without condescension. This was not.
