A lot of stuff to feel hopeless about so here’s something that’s bringing me joy: both seasons of Get a Life are on Tubi!

Yeah I’m into Charles Mingus! The hanging closet organizer guy, right?

I stopped drinking last year because I was on a ton of painkillers for my back problem- and then when I was off the painkillers, I was like, guess I’ll just stay sober? Anyway, I’m a few weeks away from being one year sober.

One good thing that happened in 2025- I got a promotion at work! Starting Monday, I’m an assistant library director!

I’m usually not the kind of person who thinks years are cursed, but 2025 started with Trump back in office, the midpoint was me needing spinal surgery, and it ended with one of my cats dying of cancer. Not sure 2026 will be better but I’m pretty eager for any kind of reset at this point.

I’ve been rewatching those vh1 I love the 80s shows on YouTube and they are way more entertaining now as a time capsule for the early 2000s. Uncle Kracker has so much to say. Every other person is from a tv show I forgot existed. Bucket hats galore.

What do child-free women in their 40s do on Xmas morning? I’ll let you know on Thursday but I’m guessing the answer is watch old epis of unsolved mysteries while my husband gets high and writes about civil war era baseball.

“You shouldn’t say no problem because it implies that there would be a problem.” Oh really? Because I would never get that from it and I think you’re a nerd if you do.

I wrote a mean letter on behalf of The Chicago Public Library because I care maximum that their budget might be getting slashed.

Give it a gander if you give a fuck about public libraries:

OPINION: The Chicago Public Library budget is under threat. Let’s remember what libraries do for us • The TRiiBE
Cutting less than one day of the Chicago police would cover the $4.5M needed to ensure there are no cuts to library staffing and resources.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries
“Libraries embody everything that we need right now to fight back against fascism," says Sara Heymann.

When collections don’t circulate, they get smaller pieces of the budget- so if you wanna see more physical media at your library, check that shit out.
The Last Video Rental Store Is Your Public Library
Audio-visual librarians are quietly amassing large physical media collections amid the IP disputes threatening select availability.

I know boomers weren’t socialized to use exclamation marks to convey tone but it’s always so funny to me when I text my mom with good news that I’m excited about and she writes back, “Great.”

I feel like Scrooge would be a changed man for like 3 days tops and then he’d go back to being a dick again. Tiger can’t change its stripes.

It’s wild that people who are only slightly younger than me don’t have the same hatred for Cheney. 2004 was the first election I voted in and wanting that dude to drop dead was such a big part of my hs/college life.

The only downside of being sober is that you’re fully aware of how much drunk people suck shit to be around.

Ald. Jessie Fuentes’ office just released a statement she was handcuffed and threatened arrest amid ongoing ICE activity in Humboldt Park.

Tear gas was also used on passersby at a Home Depot an at Rico Fresh, her office says.

I’m on my way to an emergency press conference now.

What happened to “be loud for America”?
@govpritzker.illinois.gov owns every arrest and act of violence against protesters this morning. He is aiding and abetting Operation Midway Blitz by allowing state cops to do this. He tells us to film ICE. His cops have shoved me around for filming this morning.

Today I spoke with Greg Bovino, a top U.S. Border Patrol chief, as he led dozens of feds in military gear through downtown Chicago.

He said they were arresting folks based on “how they look.”

“How do they look compared to, say, you?” he said, referring to me.
