Maureen Duffy (b. 1933) is one of the working-class playwrights inc. Wesker and Bond who formed the Royal Court Writers Group. In 1968, her play Rites, set in a women’s public toilet, was commissioned by the National Theatre. She's campaigned tirelessly for gay rights since the early 1960s. ✨

Guardian review of Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti’s Choir begins with a summary of Behzti and the violent protests that followed. Many reviews do this. It’s an odd habit. Important no doubt. But it’s not always relevant. It happened 20 years ago. She’s written a lot of plays since then.

I didn’t grow up dreaming of doing a one man show.
I grew up dreaming of surviving.
But somehow, between immigrant parents, and figuring out I was gay I found a voice. That voice helped looped me write and now I’m taking it to Edinburgh Fringe.

So, you’ve got an idea but what makes it a play? Is your story theatrical enough for the stage? And what does, ‘theatricality’ really mean anyway? I’m not claiming to have the answers to those questions, but I never get tired of exploring them. Come along!

The Green Party’s current predicament isn’t to do with leadership. It’s more the case that the Green Party does not have a fawning media. Meanwhile, Reform has The Telegraph and GB News, which promote their policies unquestioningly. It may be worth studying the Lib Dems and their media strategy.
While I'm not involved in any political party, I think @zackpolanski.bsky.social's analysis is correct. Thanks to Labour's multiple, infuriating failures, the Greens could become huge here, but only if they are bolder, more assertive and, yes, "eco-populist". www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
