Today marks the end of an era, with the closure of Yog-Sothoth.com after 28(?) years.

I first found it soon after it started, in 1998, while I was in grad school. When they started up forums, I was member 98. I was a moderator there for close to 2 decades.

This feels like the start of a story by @midnightpals.bsky.social
TarttBot 3000: hOWard, I aM frIeNd!
Lovecraft: (Nervously) Hello?
Poe: Careful! This Mechanical Turk is masquerading as the authoress of a book featuring a small college in New England and consanguine desire!
Barker: I’m in!
It's so funny to me that somehow we've wound up getting H.P. Lovecraft's digital junk mail.

When I was in 9th grade, my English teacher showed our class “Harold and Maude”. Most of my classmates hated it. I didn’t. I took it with me and it made me feel less alone. I am a better person for having seen it.

RIP Bud Cort

Walz: "To Americans who are watching this, I've got a question for you: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal govt that can kill, injury, menace, & kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such govt?"

It seems fitting this will run 13 episodes.
Episode 12 is here! We're so close to the climax of our story, don't miss it.
Our investigation heightens today, as we return to Arkham!

Someone sent me this video of Trump’s goons in action today in the Twin Cities. The audio is disturbing.

This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

Just learned that Tim Kask had passed. A couple years back I wrote him trying to track down the author of a scenario from his Adventure Gaming magazine. When i asked how I might thank him, he suggested “buy me a sandwich or something”. Not sure who the sandwich rights go to now… :(
Jim Wampler announced this morning that we lost Tim Kask, who passed in his sleep on the 30th.

Tim was the creator of The Dragon, which set the foundation for what an industry-focused magazine should be. He was an icon and one of the few early founders of TSR still with us.

Friends! For June 2026, Deep Cuts in a Lovecraftian Vein wants to host reviews of older pulp/SFF works involving gender change, identity, and transition from LGBTQ+ guests. These are paid reviews. I've got three folks lined up, but I would like one or two more, if anyone is interested.

I joined Yog-Sothoth in, I think, the fall of 1998. For many years I was also a moderator there. I am proud of the community we formed there, of our stewardship of Call of Cthulhu at its lowest ebb as a game, and grateful for the many friendships formed. I am also terribly, terribly sad.

Years ago, by my estimation 1989, one snowy Christmas Eve, my friends Eric, Mike, Joe, and myself stumbled into adventure. We had discovered an unopened carton of egg nog in the refrigerator and, being thoughtless youth had consumed it. Unfortunately Joe’s father had planned to drink said nog… 1/

Hopefully it has lived up to my pitch :)
We enjoy hearing what games people want us to play. In fact, The reason why we ran The Queen of the Night was because @sentinelhillpress.bsky.social asked us to.

Does it mean we'd spend hours running your game? Who knows?

I suppose you'll never know if you don't ask.
We have a another great week of games ahead - including a big thank you to those of you who showed up, shared, and supported our charity stream for Feeding America!

We have big plans for 2026 but what would you like to see us play?

You can still donate!
