Today the PKK, as a follow-up to its symbolic withdrawal ceremony in July, has announced its complete withdrawal from Turkey. My recent piece at the EPC summarizes the first year of this renewed Kurdish peace process.
🔴 Türkiye’s renewed Kurdish peace process could reshape EU–Türkiye relations, migration policy and regional security — but it is unfolding under authoritarian conditions.

Peace without democracy is fragile.

The controversy surrounding İmamoğlu’s diploma has once again revealed that decisions made by a committee whose competence is in question — for instance, one lacking legal experts — are also being questioned in terms of legitimacy, reflecting a practice commonly seen in authoritarian regimes.

The court ordered the arrest of İstanbul Mayor İmamoğlu, raising numerous questions and reinforcing concerns that the case is politically motivated.
1️⃣ Sleepless night in Turkey. The prosecutor has requested the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. A court decision is expected within hours. There’s also the possibility of a government-appointed trustee taking over the municipality.

As protests continue in Turkiye following detention of Istanbul Mayor İmamoğlu (police are currently cracking down on demonstrators)In recent years politicians w/diverse political views-when they gained significant momentum -are being targeted for elimination from political arena.Just 4 examples:👇

📌 The timing of such a major political operation against İstanbul mayor İmamoğlu is based on more than just the primary elections of the CHP to elect its presidential candidate, planned to be held on March 23- it rests on two other key factors:(1/4)

1️⃣Political playbook in Turkey is unfolding. With new Kurdish resolution process and developments in Syria shaping a shifting political landscape,a clear strategy was put in motion:framing CHP as new enemy & linking key opposition figures, especially İmamoğlu, to allegations of corruption & terrorism.
