Delighted to share this one, as it has been on the cards for ages: a conversation with Holly Dicker about hardcore dance music movements and her essential new book on the subject, Dance Or Die: A History of Hardcore. Listen to the conversation via the article below

Footnote: the whole sorry business ended up in Private Eye. They were tickled that a student journalist would be threatened with expulsion for… er, spotting a story and getting it published! Pretty sure my career peaked at that point 😂

The “I apologise for the hurt caused” non-apology is a classic. I used it myaelf as a student journalist when the uni tried to discipline me for reporting on obnoxious comments made by a bbc sport executive at a lecture on campus. No way I was apologising for what I did - it was a great story!

Sadly the #IOC has a terrible record in this regard - cosying up to awful authoritarian regimes. They are even talking about readmitting Russia in time for the summer games in 2028.

“We offered him a chance to expose his helmet” is perhaps not the best choice of words from the IOC spokesperson #WinterOlympics #MilanoCortina

Out of his depth or the perfect useful
Idiot for Robbie Gibb and co?
February 12, 2026 at 9:51 AM
Oh yeah, wouldn’t be the IOC without double standards and “ethics” that are anything but
February 12, 2026 at 9:46 AM
The #IOC once again showing themselves to be an utter set of heartless , corrupt cretins. Solidarity with Vadyslav Heraskevych, boos all round for the fat cats and their desire to cozy up to Farage and Trump’s pal Putin
February 12, 2026 at 9:44 AM
IOC president Kirsty Coventry signalled before these games that she favoured reinstating Russia for their 2028 Olympics in Trump’s USA. This just tallies with that. Awful decision

A wobbly slow motion ride down a hill! I say that - if I attempted it I’d have broken most of the bones in my body by the second or third corner 😂
February 12, 2026 at 9:20 AM
The IOC has long been an extremely corrupt organisation with flexible “values”. They’ve already talked about letting Russia back in so this terrible decision tracks with that. Putin and his legion of body doubles will be celebrating today

With just one racer on course, it looks weirdly slow. With four competing it feels quicker and naturally much more chaotic

It astonishes that he is a successful business person, at least with Ineos - every sports team or club he has got involved with has turned into a basket case. And as you say, he spends his time hoarding wealth in Monaco so should pipe down about the country he abandoned to stay richer. What a twunt

The world would be a better place if, during interviews, Radcliffe just answered “that would be an ecumenical matter” to every question rather than the ill informed drivel the tax-dodging douchebag usually spouts

Funnily enough last night I was saying just this to my brother - IE Big Phil is head and shoulders our best head coach since Daniel. If he can replicate Farke’s achievement in his second season (and then ape Lambert by keeping us up the following season) he will be a proper City legend.

If only my writing had the calm, composed finish of Mo’s hat-trick goals last night. Pukki-esque!

As a kind of partner to Ben’s piece (something to read after his), there’s also this Bleepography article I wrote a year or two back on another early Sanchez production as Underground Solution

BLEEPOGRAPHY: 20 – UNDERGROUND SOLUTION – DEEP INSIDE MY MIND/AFTERTHOUGHT
Our regular Bleepography series returns from hiatus, with Matt Anniss outlining NYC house hero Roger Sanchez’s early explorations in “deep bleep”

👇 The excellent and lovely @bencardew.bsky.social on the dawn of Roger Sanchez’s production career and the brief NYC deep house/bleep & bass crossover movement (plus some comments from yours truly with my Dr Bleep hat on)

As an author (non-fiction), I applaud this 👏 There’s nothing lovelier and more life affirming than getting a message from an appreciative reader. After all, when you work hard on something so creative and personal, you want people to enjoy reading it and it to touch them emotionally.

That and the Frog Faced Fuhrer’s chumminess with Trump, sharing the same donors and backers, the undeniable love of Putin and Russia etc. This aspect needs ramming down voters throats, as we can’t expect the press to do it (sadly)

It was this comp (and the more remix focused ‘the rest of’) that properly introduced me to New Order. Best ofs a great entry point for artist catalogues - see also PSBs ‘Discography’ (though in their case I already had some singles).

Wrong end, surely? It’s normally when he opens his mouth that smelly waste material emerges

Funnily enough they look exactly like young Tories usually do. At least one will be called Giles.

A party at the National Gallery with people dancing to music is not a “rave”. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
