With a load of iron ore, twenty-six thousand tons more than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty that good ship and true was a bone to be chewed when the gales of November came early
Twenty-nine sailors drowned when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in the Great Lakes' icy waters on Nov. 10, 1975. The ship was immortalized in a surprise hit 1976 folk ballad by Gordon Lightfoot.

I wrote about Festa's thoracic outlet syndrome and Botox injection treatment here and in the comments:

I suspected Festa's program would look something like the following assuming everything went well. Seems like he's more or less on that track.

The best part of being an academic is getting paid to learn. I can justify spending my mornings drinking coffee and reading about motor learning, strength and conditioning, anatomy, etc. because it will inform what I pass on to my students.

Subluxation is a lesser form of dislocation. Key will be trying to strengthen the rotator cuff now and moving forward to prevent recurrence. The shoulder does not have a lot of passive stability, so having strong muscles is key.
Charlotte Hornets guard Brandon Miller will be re-evaluated in two weeks after his diagnosis of a left shoulder subluxation was confirmed, team says.

The bevy of soft tissue injuries across the NBA continues. Again, part of this is because of the point we are at in the season but the issues run deeper than that.
San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper has suffered a left calf strain and is expected to miss multiple weeks, sources tell ESPN. MRI on Monday revealed Harper avoided a significant absence.

General process from here is to systematically progress from 1-on-1 drills to 3-on-3 and then 5-on-5. Progression will likely be based on reports of soreness and assessment of objective muscle strength and power via force plate testing. If everything goes smoothly, probably a week(s) long process.

The Dodgers are a prime example of what happens when you invest heavily in personnel on and off the field.
Obviously, their spending on the field is going to drive headlines, but the talent they’ve acquired behind the scenes is what sets them apart.

Re: Jayden Daniels
The elbow is a very stable joint; it doesn’t dislocate without significant ligament damage. Luckily, it is his non-throwing arm, so the long-term impact on his career shouldn’t be the same as if it was his throwing arm.
Still, I would expect him out a long time.

Three nerves control feeling in the hand. The radial nerve does the entire back of the hand, fingers; the median does the front of the thumb, pointer, middle, and half of the ring fingers; the ulnar does the pinky and other half of the ring. Hart is reporting issues with the middle, ring, and pinky.
Breaking story written with @fredkatz.bsky.social on Josh Hart's injury:

Anytime it is reported that the team "fears athlete X has torn their ACL" read it as they know he has torn his ACL but the MRI results haven't come back yet.
Significant blow for the Packers.

KOC is the perfect coach for McCarthy because he instills confidence while allowing his QBs to struggle and gut through it.
Here's the thing about player dev: Game reps are the best reps for long-term learning because of the high degree of variability. But you need to allow players to fail and struggle without them developing a fear of failure. That is where many many coaching staffs go wrong.

Timeline suggests either a severe grade 1 or grade 2 injury. MCL has good blood flow so it can heal on its own, even potentially grade 3s. Re-eval in 4 weeks but typically a 6-8+ week injury.
Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young sustained a sprained MCL in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, sources tell ESPN. Young underwent an MRI on Friday and multiple doctor reviews that showed he dodged major structural damage in the knee.

An unfortunately relatively common side effect of surgery. Obviously a set back in the short-term but shouldn't be of long-term concern.
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams underwent a follow-up procedure on his right wrist to remove a screw that was creating irritation during the final stages of his return to play process, team says. Williams will be re-evaluated in 10-14 days.

The best way to not put profits over youth athletes is to *checks notes* run a for-profit youth program and hide $6 million?
“The goal isn’t to become just another cog in the youth sports machinery, putting profits over players. It aims to meet players where they are, teach the game the right way, and to foster lifelong lessons creating lifelong fans. Future generations deserve nothing less.”
