The problem of bias is well explored in Wendy Hui Kyong Chun's Discriminating Data book and her discussions of software used to judge recidivism rates in the US prisons system.

Full transparency of how these algorithms work and are employed is vital.

This resonates a lot with Naomi Klein's latest book on how the far right are quick to exploit/manipulate mirror images. One wonders if it is too late to regulate now that the AI cat is out of the bag.
