Michael Pham fled Vietnam at the age of 13. He was named bishop of San Diego a month ago.

Today, he stood watch at a courthouse: ICE agents were “standing there covered with masks as we walked toward the courtroom. Eventually the agents scattered and went away”

What Romero has to say about this moment of national unrest
Romero lived in a military dictatorship not too far different from what is happening in El Salvador today or what the U.S. is heading toward.

If your pastor is trying to preach bravely right now, support her or him.

Up your pledge (to make up anyone threatening to withdraw support) if you have the means.

Tell them that you have their back.

Speak up in defense of bravery and truth.

Pray for the pastor-and your fellow parishioners.

Statement via Global Reuge, the Lutheran refugee resettlement org

It partly reads: “Persecuted people who have patiently waited for their chance at protection are poised to languish in legal limbo. Family reunifications are likely to be delayed for the foreseeable future, if not derailed entirely.”
1. About this EO: Once refugees are admitted to the U.S., the refugee resettlement program is run by 9 groups that partner with the federal govt.

Six of those orgs are faith-based.

Those groups were gutted under Trump’s first term, and this might shut them down. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

I don’t know what the new year will bring, where it may lead or what might happen. It can scare me if I think about it too much. I do know, however, that God is still speaking, the light is still shining, and the darkness still can’t do anything about it.

To write about Carter’s faith & the significant role it played in his life without actually mentioning his denominational affiliation seems like a critical omission. That Carter left the SBC to affiliate with the CBF matters because it tells us about his faith & values
