Good take on politics being turned from a participatory process to a cash collection process (and nominal involvement like knocking on doors or casting a ballot). Good evidence it applies at all levels, and it is at its core an argument to get involved locally with something you're passionate about!
This is a really interesting take from @adamconover.net. For a while I've been wanting to participate in an organization, but finding an entry point to get consistently engaged has been difficult. I hadn't thought of it as a systemic problem in this way.

Boston ended the practice of dumping sewer sludge directly into Boston Harbor 33 years ago today.

The $4.5 billion Boston Harbor Project cleaned the harbor.

Boston citizens were advised not to swim in any portion of the Harbor as early as the late 19th century.
