I don't think I've come across a poem that taps into my ethos when it comes to navigating queer community within the context of a hostile world as much as "We Have Enough Dead Friends" by Lena Oleanderson.

Love is hard. It's scary to make yourself so visible to someone and it takes constant conscious effort not to curl up into a safe, familiar isolation.

But when I lie here after hours just staring at my boyfriend's face, buzzing with emotions and hormones.

This Tumblr user summarizes something I've been feeling/doing lately. Against everything going on, it somehow feels helpful.

Small talk isn't to get to know a person. It's just a greeting to affirm you're buddies in the universe. I am motivated by wanting the other person to know I am friendly, so I have gotten pretty decent at small tall when I used to hate it.
