I keep thinking about this!!
The maddening thing about this is that they're utterly wrong. You actually CAN pick and choose. You can decide that the job is not worth it to you if it requires you to ignore your principles, and proceed accordingly. A lot of people in this job do that. You do that! I do that!

Just out—a piece I wrote a piece for the APS Observer (@psychscience.bsky.social) in which I share recommendations and resources for running a research lab at a small, liberal arts college. I hope it helps others in the same boat! www.psychologicalscience.org/publications...

I wish people would stop saying they're "in a very {asian} time of their life" or that "I'm {asian} now" when drinking hot water and instead go read something about our history in this country!!!!

You don't have to dirty your soul to be a successful academic or a scientist. Have some fucking pride. Have some fucking principles.

If you think you DO need to do that, all I can say is that I beg you not to go into academia or science.

deleted my last post because I am afraid people didn't realize I was being good natured about it, I really actually don't care how people enjoy their literature except that I do think we should support public libraries as much as possible!!!

I am begging both asian americans and everyone else to learn the history of asian americans in this country - from mass killings in the West to southeast asian diaspora resettlement in the Midwest. we are not white. solidarity always with my kin & oppressed people!!
My fellow Asian Americans, we are not white. They cannot tell us apart. They do not think we belong here, no matter how many generations we have lived here.
