Recently, District of Columbia delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a bill to Congress that would change some local officials' job titles in Washington, DC.  Specifically, it would redesignate the mayor as "governor", redesignate the DC Council as the "Legislative Assembly", redesignate the members of the DC Council as "representatives", and redesignate the chair of the council as "speaker".  This bill was introduced to show that the DC government is "prepared to make the transition from district to state."  Here is the press release that Norton's office put out:

A woman randomly gave me this little tiny stone today as I was leaving a doctor's appointment. She said, "For some reason, I feel like I need to give this to you," and then handed me the stone. I thanked her for it. It's pretty looking, too. Lots of different colors. #randomencounters

Recently, there was a lot of discussion in the news about the demolition of the East Wing of the White House, part of which was built in 1902, and part of which was built in 1942, in order to make way for the proposed White House State Ballroom.  My opinions on this entire project are mixed, and I suspect that most people are getting upset about the wrong things, and it also reveals a lot about how little people know about the White House.

October 18, 2025 was the second time when "No Kings Day" events, demonstrating against the practices of the Trump administration, were held around the country.  This was the second No Kings Day event, after an earlier day of similar events in June (I discussed the No Kings event in Baltimore that day).  This event just happened to work out for me, as I had planned a trip to the Staunton area well in advance of my learning about this event, and it fell on the last day of my trip.

So I'm at Concentra and I'm pulling up my medication list on Amazon Pharmacy. I say out loud to myself, "Okay, so my authentication code is [whatever it was], and, oh, I'm not supposed to share that with you. Oh, well." #concentraurgentcare #amazonpharmacy

Recently, I gave a refresh to the "Afton Mountain: Victim of Progress" photo set from 2003.  That's the original Afton Mountain photo set, when all of the buildings were still largely intact (compare to the later "Afton Mountain: A Modern Ruin" from 2011).  I gave a…

An observation from today's commute. A guy in a black SUV cut me off on 270. He had a standard Virginia license plate that started with "THC". First of all, I'm surprised that Virginia didn't skip that letter combo because of drug connotations. #licenseplates #virginiadrivers #thc

I figure that I should take a photo of this, because the upstairs bathroom has not been this clean in a very long time. It took me two hours to do this, and I hate doing it, but you have to admit that when I get going, I do thorough work. #bathroomcleaning #alldone #iamthorough

With homecoming season upon us, and as someone who has spent the last 18 years living in Maryland, all of you who call it "HOCO" made me question why people were so excited about going to Howard County (often referred to as "HoCo") before I eventually figured it out.

On September 13, the Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center held its annual bus show, where bus enthusiasts could show their buses, and other bus enthusiasts could enjoy them.  The show took the same format as the previous year, and many of the participants from the previous year returned with their buses.  All in all, it was a fun time, and I probably spent more time socializing than I did seeing buses.
