#3 out of the 6-pack Brouwerij van Steenberge sampler is Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple (10.7%). This is less complex but with a pretty piercing flavor. Classic and Imperial Stout were better, but it's still quite good. I lost 20% of the volume on a foam-out when I opened it! 😱 #BeerSky #BskyBeer

OK, #2 out of 6 from the Brouwerij van Steenberge sampler, and that is Gulden Draak Imperial Stout. Boy, this one is really good, too. It’s 12%, and while it’s not bourbon barrel-aged or anything like that, it still has a deep complexity to it. Another very clear winner here. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

This is my first of a sampler 6-pack from Brouwerij van Steenberge (Ertvelde, Belgium). Off to a great start with Gulden Draak Classic. It’s a triple red ale (10.5%) re-fermented with Bordeaux wine yeast. It’s super-robust with caramel and a fig-prune kind of thing going on. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I've got Double Puff “East Coast” DIPA (Moon Hill Brewing; Gardner, MA). It's neither a NEIPA nor a WCIPA. It’s more like a straight-up Pale Ale in that its base is about half WCIPA and half grainy-malty. They could have called it “American Pale Ale” and not been too far off. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

My Friday brew, to go with my homemade bulgogi meatballs, is Hop Riot NEIPA from Hot Plate Brewing Co. (Pittsfield, MA) → new brewery for me! This is more restrained than a full-on NEIPA, with a bitter pilsner base, yet you do get nice citrus over the top. Interesting and good. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I’m grilling steak tips along with The All-Seeing Eye D(NE)IPA (LongLive Beerworks; Providence, RI). It's typical LongLive, which to me is a good thing. Creamy, white grape-pineapple with an earthy undertone that's on the cardboardy/mushroomy side, so this falls right in line. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Tonight's beer is a Reckless West-Coast IPA from Winter Hill Brewing Company (Somerville MA). My friend in CA says that when East-Coast breweries attempt WCIPAs, they can be OK but they're usually missing something. This fits that, because it's good but lacks the proper edge. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Casually watching the Super Bowl here in Detroit with my father-in-law, and along with that a Final Absolution Belgian-Style Trippel Ale from Dragonmead Brewery (Warren, MI). My daughter described it yesterday as tasting like challah, honey, and apples. It really is quite good! #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I'm in Michigan for Duel in the D, the annual Michigan vs. Michigan State hockey game at Cheap Corporate Pizza Arena in Detroit. Go Blue! My father-in-law graciously grabbed some Warsteiner Dunkel for me. An easygoing classic German dark lager, and not a thing wrong with that. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

My grilling beer is an Ice Cream Man IPA from Back East Brewing Co. (Bloomfield CT). I've never had anything from them before. It’s supposed to be an NEIPA, but it’s more like a hybrid between the two coasts. I think it's all Citra hops. It's not bad, but also not distinctive. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

My son finished #10 in a national ninja competition today! Now I've got a Rabbit Rabbit D(NE)IPA from Lamplighter Brewing Co. (Cambridge MA).  It’s 8.5% but still a pretty cushy NEIPA.  Not crazy distinctive but fills out the flavor profile nicely, with a certain nuttiness to it. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Went to an anti-ICE protest in Boston today. Now it's an odd choice for me: Boogeyman Blade Slushy XXXL smoothie-style sour ale with strawberry, apricot, lemon, lemon zest, and strawberry-and-cream flavor.  Strangely, this combination sorta comes off like there’s cinnamon in it.  #BskyBeer #BeerSky

Just got back from a concert by Lez Zeppelin, a terrific all-female Zep cover band. Tonight's beer is Wandering Into The Snow DDH D(NE)IPA With Lactose & Marshmallows. I think the vanilla flavor adds a good dimension and makes it fitting for our very cold conditions right now. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I have a kind of interesting beer called In Absentia IPA from Brick & Feather Brewery (Norwood MA). I’ve had maybe one thing from these guys before. This is kinda-sorta an NEIPA, but it has a certain mustiness to go along with a pretty bitter fruit profile. I’d drink it again. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

In the midst of getting about 18 inches of snow right now! Tonight’s beer was from a new brewery to me, Fat Orange Cat Brew Co. in North Haven, CT. It’s a NEIPA called Baby Kittens. It is pretty orange juicey, but there is a bitter kick at the end. Not great, but it's decent. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I've got a Pterosaurus Sour Ale from Tripping Animals (Doral, FL) in collaboration with Drekker (Fargo, ND). It's got kiwi, raspberry, vanilla, and marshmallow. I had about 2/3 of it, then my 17-year-old son (not a big beer fan) tried it and liked it, so I let him have the rest! #BeerSky #BskyBeer

After a good kebab dinner, I'm back home with a Coal Porter from Atlantic Brewing Company (Bar Harbor, ME). It's slightly paler than your usual porter, but it's kind of chocolatey and weirdly even a bit minty. A little on the bitter side, but in a good way. Not bad at all. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

OK, I have my top 4 albums of 2025!

1) Water From Your Eyes - In A Beautiful Place (God, I love this)
2) CMAT - Euro-Country (Really entertaining but also very genuine)
3) The Beths - Straight Line Was A Lie (Just something about their sound)
4) Gelli Haha - Switcheroo (Undeniably extremely fun)

Not quite a new brewery for me, but I've only had 1 or 2 things from them: it's Tilted Barn Brewery (Exeter, RI) with Is this still Lawn Boy? Dark Barn Lager. It's nice and roasty, even chocolatey a bit, although they don't say what dark malts they use. Good example of its type. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Just got done grilling some meat and lit the grill manually because the igniter was frozen. My beer is Peppermint Lawyer Up Coffee Peppermint Porter (Cushnoc Brewing Co.; Augusta ME). Both flavors are good, and they don’t hit you over the head with them, so it’s a nice brew. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I’ve got an Experimental Jet Set D(NE)IPA from Foam Brewers (Hinesburg, VT). They describe the flavors as “Tropical Fruit, Soft Resin, Nutty”. But I also get overripe melon, and the richness and potency of it is great. It’s 9.2% ABV, but I’m not sure I would have guessed that. #BskyBeer #BeerSky

While I was making some quesadillas, I had a Money Comes and Goes West Coast-Style IPA from a brewery 5 miles from my house, Arlington Brewing Co. (Arlington MA). It's mild and restrained for an IPA, but it's got some decent flavor and grew on me a bit as I sipped through it. #BeerSky #BskyBeer
