Teacher of international relations and foreign policy. Card carrying member of the Deep State. Dad, husband, Nationals and Hoyas fan, wishing I had more time to write and think. Realist constructivism uber alles.
Anyone here tried NotebookLM for lit reviews for articles?

I preach on the dangers of this in every class I take - not the inclusive approach now forced on these clubs, but on the desire of too many Georgetown students to sell their souls for management consulting gigs.

Calling scholars of norm entrepreneurship... sounds like a pretty clear case study in our own world.
I'm putting together a new workshop that is less about the nuts and bolts of alternative grading and more about how to make the case for alternative grading to administrators, parents, students themselves, etc. What do you think? This is really the focus of my new book.

Does anyone out there in polisky have a good glossary for terms people should know if they're studying IR? Asking on behalf of a student.

Great study, as I was talking about the failures of what should appropriately be Congressional dominance in my US foreign policy class a couple weeks ago and will return to it again soon www.aei.org/research-pro...

How do polisky professors think about talking about DEIA questions when it comes to policy models/theories/etc.? Particularly in classrooms that may be politically divided. sotlsky

I just read about the FAFSA delays in @insidehighered.bsky.social and @chronicle.com this AM. Thinking about this in the context of how (elite) universities are gatekeepers into the IR/foreign policy world and the need for real DEI at earlier ages, this is just bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

This is the way.

Too many of us faculty know what this kind of loss is like. And how we're not equipped to help our students appropriately cope, much less cope ourselves.

The Unthinkable Mental Health Crisis That Shook a New England College
Over six terrible months, professors and administrators at Worcester Polytechnic Institute took on the unofficial role of counselors during a spate of campus suicides.

The best is happy news from former students. Got great news today on one of my "plankowners" (veterans of my first ever class) who got into an amazing grad school.

I wonder how many undergrad students actually understand how hard it is to be an adjunct. It seems that the, I don't want to call it a Ponzi scheme or a con, but the belief that tenured faculty still care about teaching, still persists... www.chronicle.com/article/the-...
Advice | The Disposable, Indispensable Faculty Member
If teaching is so easy, why do so many tenured professors take such great pains to avoid it?

That confederate monument in Arlington National Cemetery was the most offensive of anything I saw in the extensive review we did as commissioners of the Renaming Commission. Flat out celebration of slavery and armed rebellion against the U.S. government.

Entering grades for #GOVT1600 always makes me a bit sad. Sometimes I get perked up to see someone get a grade that's good and it makes me happy because I've seen their progress, but more often it feels like that's the only thing they'll take away from the class - a letter, not insights. #sotlsky

Just started Julian Gewirtz’s new book on China in the 80s and it reminds me that the CCP has always been a party focused on history and the writing thereof. Interesting to think about it through a constructivist lens.
