Scientist, educator, storyteller. I speak for the beetles.
I've been thinking a lot this week about what it would mean to do science in an anti-capitalist way and how revolutionary that would be for our community's survival now (especially for ECRs!!) and for our brighter future when we can reclaim it. I'm curious what it would look like to others? 🧪
"There’s an obvious fix to the problem of reviewer overwhelm: do less peer review."

Or what if - hear me out - we acknowledged that the publishing quotas expected of us are unsustainable for doing good, rigorous science while being a human in this world?

I couldn't agree more @jpflores.rbind.io! Continuing to do the scientific work that means the most to us is powerful resistance.

Beetles are historically viewed as 'mess and soil' pollinators that often cause more harm than good. So why does this Appalachian beetle-pollinated flower make THIS MUCH nectar? We explore the natural history of Amianthium nectar and its interactions with beetle pollinators in new work in #AJB! 🧪

"nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

As in, the government *can't* just break contracts, like overhead agreements.

We're not giving in. I'm so proud to be a part of @asn-amnat.bsky.social and @asngrads.bsky.social. Thank you @danielbolnick.bsky.social and everyone on the ASN Executive Council for reaffirming our society's shared commitment to excellent, invaluable, inclusive science.
I usually reserve this account for my personal views; but today I want to represent my position as President of @asn-amnat.bsky.social to post a message that will shortly go out to the membership of the American Society of Naturalists from the ASN Executive Council
