A car has crashed into my estate this afternoon. Astoundingly, despite this being a popular spot for pedestrians, cyclists, and people who love pizza, no one was hurt.

Did you know there’s a UK wide phone number you can ring if you’re walking alone at night and want someone on the phone to talk to to help you feel safer?

I couldn't have been the only one frantically command+f "cycling" when the spending review was published. In this economy, an extra £661m dedicated to walking and cycling infrastructure is nothing to sneeze at.

In short, you love to see it.

I ran for 25 minutes straight today, the longest ever by quite a long way. I learnt some things:

1) that I can run for 25 minutes
2) that just because my lungs can handle 25 minutes of running doesn’t mean the rest of my body can
3) running really uses your whole fucking body hey

Stumbled upon this on street bike parking so picturesque it feels like it was built for the royal family and not just me nipping into the post office

My kingdom for a bike bell that just goes “Sorry! Sorry’! Sorry!” every time I ring it

Me, sobbing:
It's like this song just gets me, you know. Like it knows my deepest desires. Like it sees into my very soul. Like somehow in the truest sense it knows my heart.

The song:
🎶 I want to ride my bicycle,
I want to ride my bike.
I want to ride my bicycle,
I want to ride it where I like. 🎶

Love this tool from @atkinsrealis.bsky.social to help you understand what it is about a walking route that makes you feel safe or unsafe, particularly as a woman.

Did you know it costs just £200 to update a crossing button to make it give immediate priority to pedestrians?

If you’ve got a crossing you’re sick of waiting at, it might be a good thing to ask your local council about.

I’m delighted to be at the #WalkingSummit today, both as a Living Streets trustee and a big old walking nerd.

Are you here too? Come say hi! I’m the soggy looking woman who’s already spilled coffee on her nice new top.
The stage is set for our UK Walking Summit 2025. Follow #WalkingSummit for the highlights!

It's not even 11am and I've already met a greyhound named Noodle who is gluten free. What else can go right today?

Some personal news: I'm leaving Relate!

That means I'm on the hunt for my next big thing, and potentially some smaller things to keep me going in the meantime.

Here's what that could look like:

Fable is fast becoming my favourite social media not only because it connects you with people reading the same book as you but also because it roasts your taste in books using cute little custom graphics

I biked to work today in the rain and didn’t melt. Gotta tell the drivers about that, huge revelation

Going onto trauma surgery rotation, I expected to see lots of gun violence injuries.

However I did not prepare myself for the number of traffic violence injuries: pt after pt arriving to the ED from car crashes, ped vs auto, auto vs auto.

The injuries are devastating and life-altering.

Life is really bloody tough at the moment but this morning I went for a walk for my stupid mental health and passed the city farm. The kind volunteer opening up asked if we could do her a favour and feed the pigs.

So my day got to start like this

At the end of the day, if someone is going to drive dangerously, I’d rather they be behind the wheels of a bike or scooter than a car.

Hive mind... I'm looking for good examples of COVID-related outdoor dining programs in small towns. A lot of big cities used outdoor dining to save their restaurant industries, but what about places that aren't your typical urbanist utopias? I'm aware of quite a bunch, but would love more examples.

What feeling do you most connect with the idea of cycling in your neighbourhood?

1) Fear
2) Freedom
3) Bravery
4) Contentment
5) Something else, and if so, what?

I wouldn’t say being a green voter is part of my identity, but I’ve always voted green because in every election they’ve felt like the best candidate.

This election is the first time my vote has ever helped someone win. So proud to be living in Carla Denyer’s seat.
