Totally Cooked: The Weather & Climate Podcast
The climate is changing. So is the conversation. Totally Cooked is a podcast about weather, climate change, and what it all means for life on Earth.

I've made the decision not to go while trump is in power. Im actually not confident I'd be let in anyway...I've said a few things on the public record he would not like. Don't like the idea of being detained, simply for saying how it is.

It's soooo windy here. Every time a door opens its like a furnace blowing in 🥵 hope you guys are ok.

It's 28 degrees at 8.30am in #Canberra. My girls are making the most of outside time while they can. A north-westerly is getting stronger -not good for fire weather. Fingers crossed we see this thru unscathed.
Thinking of everyone affected by the #Victorianfires.

Hard agree. Given how disparate the funding is between fire agencies and defence, they should have paid.

Current conditions in #Canberra, sun set roughly and hour ago
We are 600m above sea level - would be roughly 6deg hotter if we had no elevation.

Oh my! That was 9 years ago - Sydney had its hottest summer that year (since beaten ). I watched it now with my youngest on my lap and it brought tears.
My concerns have amplified since.
My family has grown but we're now in Canberra & doing as much as possible to reduce carbon footprint & adapt.

I completely agree with you. Very little in the way of meaningful and permanent action

Thank you 🤩 i really enjoy this sort of writing
the @australia.theguardian.com published an oped by me today.
This heatwave is bad.
The bushfires it is enabling are also bad.
Climate scientists & meteorologists are incredibly concerned about the next 48 hours.
And this is just a taste of what's to come.

As a climate scientist, I know heatwaves in Australia will only get worse. We need to start preparing now | Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick
During black summer, my daughters were too young to know what was happening. Now, amid another Australian heatwave, they deserve answers
www.theguardian.com

me too - all will be revealed in the next 48 hours.
that was once serious cock-up by Defense!

View from my front yard in #CANBERRA this afternoon.
The fire is 300km away, in Victoria.
Much of Australia is currently in a heatwave, in some places the hottest temps for >15 years.
Cool change forcasted in south-east from tomorrow onwards, but this is a recipe for disaster for firefighting

So devastating 😢

Terrific scientist, articulate Communicator, brilliant advocate for women in science.
She will be deeply missed.

It would be quite straightforward to do, if the total emissions are known.
We're working on a webpage that can basically do this, based on our paper + more impacts included. Will be launched sometime in the new year - watch this space
🚨New paper on heatwaves in a net zero world 🚨

In our study, led by @sarahinscience.bsky.social, we find that the intensity, length and frequency of heatwaves do not return to pre-industrial levels under net zero - and in many regions barely improve at all.

Our research on the emissions & projected impacts of new fossil fuel projects has been making news this week.
Joined by my co-authors @andrewkingclimate.bsky.social @raindrop-herder.bsky.social, we take a deeper look on the latest episode of Totally Cooked.

Available wherever you get your podcasts

Absolutely! Pushing ahead with it as fast we can but we have limited resources

Hi Kirsty, happy for you to reach out via standard work email. but in a nut shell, if we can convert CH4 into CO2 equiv (which can be done) then we have a solid shot. we are also working on a freely available online tool & other impacts too

thanks, I might need to train up in Katniss-like skills.....
My husband asked if there was a hit out on me already, and whether he need to look in to witness protection. I'm not entirely sure if that was all said in humor

HARD AGREE!

(Who knows, maybe they'll come after me now too....)

Yeah this is pretty abhorrent. It has tones of the climate wars all over again. Pretty low of them to come after IPCC authors in this way.
Im a CLA w Fredi on Ch3, she's a brilliant scientist

deflect, deflect, deflect, and a sprinkle of rehash, that's all they are doing

For so long, fossil fuel projects have said their contribution to climate change is "negligible".
Turns out that's wrong.
Our research in NPJ Climate Action proves it.
Every tonne of CO2 matters.

Yeah, its hardly the best 😬
But we had a lot of fun with this episode. This one is more for the entertainment value.
