A friend we lost shared this philosophy with me a long time ago. I still think about her almost every day not because she’s gone or even because of all her amazing advice, but because you remember the people in your life who bring support, love, and fun even when things are dark and scary.
Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.
