I can’t believe how much less stressful academia is when you aren’t trying to finish a PhD

New academic year, new institution, new role. I am no longer with the National Park Service and I am grateful to be a #postdoc for FIU’s Institute of Environment. I’d love to connect with others working across sectors or navigating #earlycareer research in these uncertain times.

Just got home from an inspiring week at the NITMB celebrating Dr. Ricardo Cortez, biofluid dynamics, and math modeling education. Grateful for the invitation and reminders of the value of creativity, kindness, and collaboration when building a career in research and training.

Adventures of being a data scientist in the natural sciences: I just got an email about the “Florida Python Challenge” and assumed it was a programming competition. Turns out it’s about literal pythons 🐍

One of the greatest honors of my life was the nine months I spent as a Data Scientist for the National Park Service.

I joined NPS as a critical hire supporting database development, data stewardship, and analysis for Everglades monitoring and restoration. It was the dream job I didn’t know existed.

A little good news: my coauthors and I have a paper out in PRIMUS!

I will forever be grateful for the opportunities I had to teach, develop curriculum, and do education research during my time in grad school.

I’m loving Adam Rippon’s Crocodile Hunter energy backstage at #PrevagenUSChamps. It’s a rare treat to see this footage of elite skaters in their natural habitat.

I was working in the park last week and decided to go for a walk at a popular trail afterward. I wasn’t the only one with that idea 🐊

I’ve been biding my time since I got a join code a year ago and waiting for the tipping point that would bring a critical mass of my networks here. I’m feeling the winds of change.
