Storybooks are broken for many children. I am going to change that.

Why there is war? Men wage meaningless war because of their women, but not for their children. And yet, our children fight for us.(Some nations fight for their children. Usually they lose.)

I have carried them in a satchel, without reading. I have laid them and slept upon.

The day the winner don't celebrate what split a nation in two, when he remembers what it was to oppose, acts to strengthen it beyond his own power, when he acknowledges the lost not saying how he represents both, for he don't — that day will be true democracy.

Like you, I have seen its face before.

The valley of death, for every idea — and, every
endeavour must pass through it. I have seen its upright twin, too. As I slide down its slippery ways, I see the slope
curving upwards on the other side.

I need a branch, a believer — one, true fan.

what if
I wake up
and you
aren't there

did you
take
a detour
when I
wasn't here

What is about
sorrow and guilt?
The sun will rise tomorrow.
I will walk
with hope on leaves.
The sunset,
on the end of a rope.

Sometimes, in a lifetime you read just one book and you are going to be fine.
In elementary school, my teacher told my mother I was “unteachable.” I was behind in every subject, including reading. Then I found this one book in the school library and connected with it, reading it hundreds of times. I made a career in reading, writing, and editing. That’s what a book can do.

Mostly —
As for me,
I pick my nose.
Butter spread
on my toast.
I drink my tea.
I think, I am free.

Banning books is stupid and gross, but whenever I'm looking for a new book, I have to admit that the banned book lists have been really helpful.

Tonight’s bedtime storybook — I am a Tree, comes to you courtesy of Paula Caballero and Sona Ramachandran. A story about the utility of an unsung tree.

Only I remain.
