This thread makes an important point! When talking to Representatives or the media, focus on the health and economic impact. Republican members are usually terrified of China winning — this hands them biomedical supremacy on a platter.
"the extremely strong desire is to just punish universities [..] It’s not based on any kind of coherent policy agenda. It’s just a desire to inflict pain."
This, is critical to understand. Pointing out "it's hurting us" won't do, since it's the whole point.

I mis-added earlier, here's corrected post: How many scientists and interior workers were fired today? Between news article estimates and social posts, I count over 10k:
5200 @ NIH
1200-2000 @ DOE
800 @ USDA
2,300 @ Dept. of Interior
1,300 @ CDC
(I haven't heard any FDA, EPA, or NASA numbers)

Super excited to announce our latest work. On a personal note, it's not an exaggeration to say that blood, sweat, and tears got us to the finish line on this: working w/ an outstanding global team of scientists in Germany, Japan, Russia, and USA responding in >100 pages of complex reviewer comments.
Massively parallel characterization of transcriptional regulatory elements - Nature
Lentivirus-based reporter assays for 680,000 regulatory sequences from three cell lines coupled to machine-learning models lead to insights into the grammar of cis-regulatory elements.

December 10 is the big day for @nobelprize.bsky.social ceremonies—the medals are awarded, and the fabulous banquet takes center stage. Regretting not making it this year, but fondly reminiscing about the 2021 events.

Molecular convergence of risk variants for congenital heart defects leveraging a regulatory map of the human fetal heart
Congenital heart defects (CHD) arise in part due to inherited genetic variants that alter genes and noncoding regulatory elements in the human genome. These variants are thought to act during fetal de...
