That’s definitely a violation of the first amendment. Representative town halls should be protected since they involve government officials engaging with their constituents. Using law enforcement to silence that speech is illegal.

Regarding the importance of elections:
Many people feel disillusioned with the system. But if we believe elections won’t be free and fair, the worst thing we can do is disengage and hand over power without resistance. That’s exactly how we lose any remaining influence we do have.
