Tips for other freelancers. Get outside for 20 minutes a day for Vitamin D and fresh air. I usually head out for a long walk and to take photos before dark. My goal is to add a 10 a.m. head-clearing walk as well. (I miss my doggo - RIP)

Set up systems and processes for running your business. It streamlines routine tasks, saving your time and energy to focus on "doing the thing". #FreelanceFriends

Also, to gain new clients when networking in groups:

Keep promises, connect in many places, be open to emergency consultations, get to know other members' friends and colleagues, and help members pull together for greater success and momentum.

Open mic reply to Angela re: best way/place to prospect or remind folks of past relationships.

I belong to lots of groups, try to be helpful and friendly, arrive early and help set up, give advice if asked with no strings, and usually gain a few clients in the process.

In France and beyond. I have this further down on my homepage (and on my LinkedIn, etc.): I'm based in France, work in English, and partner with social impact founders, community leaders, and purpose-driven teams worldwide. After all, changemakers are everywhere!

A3. Exclusionary phrases I might use...

I am a mature (chronologically and emotionally) and deeply experienced advisor who works with clients who value those qualities.

I can do your marketing, but I prefer to help you and your team do it better and more easily.

A2. Exclusionary verbiage my clients have used:

No mean people, Pacific Time Zone only, prepay only -- no net-30, women only, etc.

One I use often: No drama!

A2. I often say I work with U.S. companies to help paint a picture for those who refer me. I do volunteer with global companies, but I try to keep my paid work here in the U.S.

A2. In my client sessions, we do try to pin down what the client doesn't do and work that into their public-facing language. Sometimes it's explicit and sometimes it's suggested. I think it's a good reminder and helps others refer you more accurately.

A1. I also talk about helping companies live up to their potential to appeal to good-hearted companies rather than focusing on revenue (though that's a happy byproduct of living up to your potential).

A1. I use phrases to appeal to companies that are owner-led to differentiate from those that are board-led, CEO-led, rainmaker-led, absentee-whoever-led, or companies with solo owners but they don't make the major decisions. #FreelanceFriends

A1: There are a million writers out there, so I try to mention my background in journalism and that I focus on content marketing to try to differentiate myself from other types of writing/writers. Otherwise, people assume I write books/fiction novels. (I don't.) #FreelanceFriends

I'm Sandy Hubbard. This year I'm more of a business coach than a marketing advisor, but in my opinion, you have to be worthy of what you market about yourself, so there's always work to be done on the inside to validate the outside. #FreelanceFriends

Exclusionary marketing -- What is it? Why or why not use it? I know some #FreelanceFriends who plan to chat about it on Thursday this week! Stay tuned for updates!

Thanks! It's a red flag when someone reaches out and says they have no content strategy, no editorial guidelines and don't know their brand voice. They aren't ready for a professional writer yet.
