🪦The Ghostly Valentines🪦

Another of this year's Valentine's commissions, this is for Cam of their characters Bernard (he/him, gnc trans man) and Biddy (she/her) - they are ghosts from 17th century Edinburgh!

On the left is Bernard, a GNC trans man with long hair which flows around his partner. He wears a tall, brimmed, black hat, a feminine style bodice with white collar and lace sleeves with masculine puffed breeches. Biddy is a working class woman with a white coif covering her hair, which peeks out with a curled fringe and side-locks. She wears a spiral-laced bodice and a long skirt with ribbon tied shoes. She has a round, buxom figure and ruddy complexion. The decorative frame is based upon designs from Jacobean-era furniture.

And while I am on it: a study from a few days ago, that came out really well. Was able to get some nice textures and color variation with some filtering, and got to this dark fantasy look I have always liked but never quite achieved before.

I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to @wwwwhaah.bsky.social for this utterly incredible art of Hemlock. She took the challenge of a lore-heavy character & utterly crushed it 🥹
The opening text of the post reads: “I have a heart made to take flight / But I’m low, so low / Listen to the sound of my heart beat slow” The art by @htreww depicts Hemlock, an elf mage in the middle of spell casting. Their hair is shaved close to the scalp, accentuating their angular features and elegant makeup. Their Mourn Watch robes flow around them, layered & ornate with gold accents & jewelry, a dramatic highbacked collar, and breeches underneath to allow free movement. Hemlock stands partially in profile mid-movement, facing left. Their hands are spread, actively weaving magic which swirls around them like ghostly green flames. They are looking to their slightly over their shoulder to the left, just past the viewer. Curiosity and uncertainty combine in their expression, giving an air of mystery to them and their surroundings. In the background, three large windows look out onto the Memorial Gardens of the Grand Necropolis. A namesake hemlock tree is visible through the window on the right.
