i think migrating away from Vercel hosting is a solid idea. i moved my Next.js blog to Cloudflare (for free) and have been very happy with that

with Next.js 16+ committing to deployment adapters (and Vercel adapter using the same API), we should hold their feet to the fire on the ease of migration

I took a hiatus from social media and vowed not to sign back in unless I had produced something worth sharing. I hacked my old kindle device and created a school dashboard for my daughter using @cloudflare.social
platform. Totally worth it 💯.

The internet needs more visual explainers and there’s no one better than @samwho.dev to help you get started 💯
Have had a couple of takers on this and it is tremendously fun and productive.

I’m totally serious: if you’re making a visual explainer with web technology and you want expert feedback for free from someone with a proven track record making this content, DM me.
If you’ve been thinking about making something like this, and you’ve not done it before, or you’re on the fence about it, or you’re stuck: my DMs are open. I would love to help you. Let’s talk.

Dear BlueSky community: 🦋

What cool hackable electronic stuff should I get from Shenzhen?
(E.g. eInk displays, ESP32s?)

My friend is in Shenzhen and told me they can get me something on their way.

Please RT for wider reach if you like.

Being on a team that is moving fast and getting shit done is one of the best feelings in the world.

As my coworker @gsiener.bsky.social says... it's not "happy engineers ship fast"; it's that engineers who ship fast ARE HAPPY ENGINEERS.

It's not the whole story, but it's a lot of it. ☺️

The IEEE republished a lightly edited version of my recent essay, "In Praise of 'Normal' Engineers". 🙌 spectrum.ieee.org/10x-engineer

The greatest engineering orgs in the world are not the most pedigreed or top heavy, but the ones where normal engineers can move the business forward, day by day.
Why Great Engineering Orgs Thrive on "Normal" Engineers
Software engineer Charity Majors challenges the "10x engineer" myth, arguing that true productivity lies in team performance, not individual brilliance. She encourages building workplaces where "norma...

We have Girls Day in Germany which is a public-private collaboration that tries to bring the change. Many companies participate in it enthusiastically and there’s genuine support. It’s a good start in my opinion.

I am going to write an opinion paper called "psychologists should stop researching getting girls to code and research changing software cultures"
Back when the Ada initiative was a thing, we were talking at a conference and realized that most of the women software engineers we knew had significant trauma histories. We were used to being treated like shit. Women who were unwilling to be treated that way left the field! To us it felt normal.

It’s Thursday and this week I’ve:
- Jailbroke an ancient arm-gnueabi device.
- Wrote Zig code for it and debugged using ancient gdb
- Wrote Golang code as usual
- Wrote C++
- Reviewed Python code and SQL query performances.

…while being an EM.

I think I need help. 😵‍💫

Does anyone know if project Euler is good for 10yo kids? Are there any other such projects that use programming to solve maths problems?
March 12, 2025 at 7:46 PM
I wrote some Zig code today and cross compiled it for an old arm-gnueabi platform. I was pleasantly surprised by the ergonomics and maturity of the language.

What’s more impressive was it integrated with my NeoVim perfectly and showed me meaning linter hints on save.

💯

I stay away from US political discourse because it’s not something that I can influence, but that press conference at the Oval Office just made it clear that 4chan edgelord takeover of that country is complete.

What a shitshow

My LIS-BER flight got delayed by 2 hours. Due ton night curfew at BER, it was redirected to Hannover airport.

After a tiring bus ride from Hannover, the bus driver told us he can’t stop anywhere in the city and has to drop us only at the airport! We literally came via A100 but nope, Das Regeln 😡

From a historical perspective: The response from US, unsurprisingly, is very similar to the imperialist days of Gunboat diplomacy and Boxer rebellion.

The problem with that is there’s no 8 Nation Alliance + cannon fodder from
Colonies to back that up.
Distillation is violation of Terms of Service. That is not Intellectual Property theft. It’s up to the company to enforce TOS, not the government.

Outputs of AI stems are not copyrightable either. Oh, and OpenAI might be violating copyright anyway.
