Of course all grants are competitive. But this is a serious change, and some advance comms would have changed the funding schemes I targeted.

I - and I am sure many others - poured hours into our grant application last summer. These are not straightforward applications involving one group, as there are many researchers, patients, families and educators involved .. Hearing this makes me feel all our time was wasted.

We are an interdisciplinary group of researchers and professionals, obviously including neurodivergent researchers, who are keen to see change

If no resolution can be reached, and given its an optional scan for research purposes with no direct benefit to the child, I’d cancel the scan. 2/2

Gosh this is tough. I think it would be fine to schedule/ complete the scan on the basis of one parent (this would be the case for routine medical appointments). However if there is dissent there should be some attempt to mediate.. ½
