My fellow House Sacramento members had a great visit with Senator Angelique Ashby's office last week at YIMBY lobby day. We're excited for SB 79, the big transit-oriented development bill, to get to the Senate floor soon. Let's export Sacramento's housing policy statewide!

We had over 30 people turn out for our event on housing and homelessness in Sacramento County last night. Thanks to Supervisor Rich Desmond, County Planning Director Todd Smith, and Deputy County Executive Dave DeFanti for a great panel discussion. And thanks to 19 Handles for hosting us.

None of the three story townhomes in this picture would be allowed under Sacramentos bulk control requirements, which are currently the law of the land in all formerly R1 and R2 zones. It’s a problem. We have to fix that before we see meaningful outcome change.
Here's what happened: In 1998 Houston policymakers reduced their minimum lot size requirement from 5,000 square feet down to 1,400 square feet within the I-610 Loop (central Houston.
This policy change has resulted in the transformation of some Inner Loop neighborhoods like Rice Military.

French law requires “daylighting” all intersections—eliminating street parking within 5 m of crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety—by 2026. Paris will complete all intersections by end of 2025.
