DOJ lawyers have lied in court and can't answer basic questions: "DOJ attorneys have been rebuked by judges of all stripes... you've seen pushback from Reagan appointees, you've seen pushback from Bush appointees, you've seen pushback from Obama appointees and Trump appointees and Biden appointees"
As Trump pushes whirlwind agenda, DOJ is challenged to defend his orders in court
As Donald Trump presses his breakneck effort to remake the government, the flurry of lawsuits pushing back have seemingly overwhelming the lawyers defending his orders.

Looking forward to attending this webinar on the courts and their role in our democracy with @americanprogress.bsky.social and @mikepod.bsky.social - still time to RSVP if you haven't!
The United States Judiciary and Democratic Backsliding: Perspectives on the Role of Courts in Autocratic Governments
Please join the Center for American Progress and Court Accountability for a virtual event that will focus on the connection between courts and authoritarian movements at home and around the world. History shows that when the courts fall, liberal democracy is soon to follow, and with the Supreme Court’s recent anti-democratic turn, now is the appropriate time to have this important conversation. The event will feature a presentation by CAP Senior Fellow Michael Podhorzer on the impacts of judicial rulings on American democracy. The first panel, “Autocratic Capture of the Judiciary,” will feature leading legal scholars addressing the current role of U.S. courts in advancing domestic anti-democratic movements and backsliding democracy. The second panel, “Global Perspectives on Courts and Autocratic Governments,” will include historians and experts on the global rise of authoritarianism discussing parallels to the fall of democracy around the world and the actions of the current Supreme Court.

"Few countries and territories have seen larger percentage-point drops in confidence in the judiciary than the U.S. These include Myanmar overlapping the return to military rule, Venezuela amid deep economic and political turmoil, and Syria in the runup to and early years of civil war."

Tell your senator (still waiting for #DCStatehood) they need to stay in to #ConfirmAllJudges, including & esp the circuit court nominees. The millions of people in the 1st, 3rd 4th & 6th circuits deserve fair-minded judges who have a demonstrated commitment to civil rights. p2a.co/SduFM5M

Judge Mustafa Kasubhai has been confirmed by the Senate to a lifetime appointment to be a Federal District Court Judge for the District of Oregon, 51-44.

He will be fantastic!!

Now let’s confirm the rest of the judges, too! #CourtsMatter
Voting on the confirmation of Judge Mustafa Kasubhai right now!! He will be such an excellent addition to the federal bench. We need more judges with employee side and labor experience.

Now let’s confirm the rest of the nominees, too!
