Do me a favor, put your phone down and go tell your partner, kids or whoever needs to hear it that you love them. Don't wait till later. Do it now. Call them. Hug them. Life can be over in a literal heartbeat 💓.
"I run to find out who I am.
I run to find out who I might become.
I run to find out who else understands me."

This week's issue of The Morning Shakeout hits home differently. Thank you, as always, for your words, @mariofraioli.com! 🥰

Still relevant: January: trying not to break before Tokyo. April through June: not running at all. October: 43 seconds off my 10 km PR. The foot still bothers me some weeks. I don't pay attention anymore. Year in review: messy, but somehow it worked.

This struck a chord (pun intended), because we're currently discussing Quality Objectives (think KPI) for one of our QM processes, and it's delicate, to say the least.
I failed at guitar twice due to goals, pressure, homework.

Then I became a musician in 20 min. with a ukulele, thanks to intention, daily play, and fun.

Then again, using synths.

Same dream. Different approach.

Why SMART goals are broken & what works instead:

In 2024 I have read 12 books. For 2025 I set the goal to read 25 books. I finished the year with 23 ... a failure. Not really, because I still almost doubled my book count from the year before. Here's to a 2026 with at least 26 books read. Are you committed?

Still relevant: My monthly mile marker for December 2025. 19 runs, including one race, 268 km, lots of frozen beards.

I am genuinely worried for #LA2028. I would be worried for the FIFA World Cup 2026 as well, but I have long stopped giving a f*ck for that show.
Athletics Weekly writes about the countries voluntarily not sending teams to this week's World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee. And I've heard about at least five countries running into visa troubles.

Ethiopian absence at World Cross in Tallahassee is tip of the iceberg - Athletics Weekly
Visa problems have decimated the Ethiopian team for this weekend's global championships but most of Europe continues to quietly boycott this once proud ...

First day back at the work computer. On the plus side, I did remember my password. On the negative side, I keep confusing the Ctrl- and Cmd-Key (yes, at work it's Windows, at home it's Mac, and I am using the the same shared keyboard in my home office).

The race planning for 2026 has been in the works for the last couple of weeks already, but I've now updated the corresponding page (www.runbikeco.de/races/) and also registered for the first one: season opener March 22, 2026, 10 km on the road.

Final run of the year, a little crescendo 20'/20'/20'. After 10 days of foggy, grey weather the sun made a comeback just in time.

Full disclosure, the automatic sharing of blog posts was entirely vibe coded with Claude, and I guess we will need another iteration to get the links showing up as links correctly.

Can recommend, Amsterdam is a great city and the marathon course pretty fast (and scenic!). Ran my PR there in 2024.
Looking for a destination race in 2026? Registration for next year's TCS Amsterdam Marathon is now open.

On 18th October, 32,000 runners will take part in the Platinum Label marathon, renowned for its fast, scenic course and iconic Olympic Stadium finish.

Why not join them? https://bit.ly/3YTLVJ7
