GOOD NEWS: the peat burning ban is being extended in the English uplands. 👏

Peatlands lock up carbon, protect water & support rare wildlife.

We hope today's announcement signals a move to end this damaging practice for good, and thank our supporters for helping make it happen.

The choices ahead on nature, farming and development will be critical, and the right ones can deliver lasting benefits for people and nature.

Garden birds not looking well? It could be trichomonosis.

By reporting sick or dead birds, you can directly help our scientists understand this disease.

Report here: www.gardenwildlifehealth.org

Please don’t clean or remove feeders until after we visit - this step is crucial.❗

The White-tailed Eagle. 🦅

The UK’s biggest bird of prey.

Once extinct here, now soaring back into our skies.

With our new film 'Return' about to launch, let’s celebrate these giants of the sky...

Water Rails are related to Moorhens but a lot smaller and slimmer. Although distinctive with their long red bill and grey face, you’ll be lucky to catch a glimpse of these shy wetland birds, but you’ll not mistake their call – they sound just like a squealing piglet!

🗣 ‘A sticking plaster on a gaping wound’

The Seabird Action Plan was meant to be a moment of hope for Scotland’s magnificent seabirds.

But it comes just days after the approval of Berwick Bank windfarm, which is set to kill tens of thousands of seabirds near some of our most iconic colonies.

August’s full moon rises 🌕🌠

Named the 'Sturgeon Moon’ by Native Americans for plentiful fishing, & the 'Grain Moon' in Old English to mark the harvest.

Tonight, it shares the sky with the Perseid meteor shower (peaking 12 Aug), so keep an eye out for shooting stars!

A dark day for Scotland’s seabirds.

We're incredibly concerned that Scottish Government have granted consent for the Berwick Bank offshore windfarm, which could catapult some of our most vulnerable species toward extinction 🚨

We will carefully scrutinise the details and consider our next steps.

We are taking steps to help our wetlands become more resilient and adaptable to climate change. This will enable them to continue to support a wide range of species throughout changing weather systems.

🗣 “To see them back is quite a joyous sight”

Common Cranes disappeared from Scotland around 500 years ago. However, in 2012 a few birds naturally recolonised Aberdeenshire. 🍃

This is the story of their return and of the people helping to make sure they thrive. 🙌
