I usually watch #TCM on Sundays, to see the silent films and especially Jacqueline Stewart's introduction. Tonight I was pretty sure I wasn't interested in the film itself — King of Kings, the Jesus story — but #DeMille enchanted me. There is an artistry to the best silents that is unique.

This has been a wet, chilly week in the SF Bay Area. We've spent our evenings on the couch snuggled up with dogs, shawls, and mugs of hot tea or chocolate.

It has been the opposite of dry and sunny in San Francisco this week. At least we have power again, and the entire state is no longer at risk of drought. 🙌

One can get too much of a good thing though…Keeping all the flooded and evacuated regions in my thoughts these days. 🥺

A little good news from the world’s fourth largest economy:

“From 2022 to 2023, GHG emissions per capita in California fell by 2.8% while inflation-adjusted GDP per capita grew by 2.3% over the same time period, demonstrating that climate ambition and economic growth can complement each other.”😎

I love the East Bay with all my heart, have loved it ever since I moved here almost 40 years ago. Thank you for this beautiful article describing it.
I love the east Bay Area. People of different races and religions live and work together to build the American Dream. We in liberal society take this for granted but the national rise of extremism stemming from online content seeks to take this away from us.

Tornadoes? Holy moly. Those things are terrifying.
The weather service is so confident in potential tornadoes that it placed San Francisco in a rare marginal risk for severe thunderstorms three days in advance (both in yesterday's forecast for Dec. 24 and today's for Dec. 25), the first time the agency had done that for the city in at least a decade

I had the privilege of hearing her once. A great American.
Incredible obituary in NYT for Betty Reid Soskin, who served as a National Park Service ranger until age 100 and witnessed so much in her life.

Her great grandma was born into slavery. Then she stood with America’s first black president.

“What could be more American than that?”

We adopted our senior dogs from Poodle Rescue of Las Vegas (now closed) Rocket Dog Rescue, and Muttville in San Francisco. These little oldsters have added so much to our lives!
Though sometimes difficult to rehome, senior dogs can make great pets because they are long past the frenzied puppy stage, often well-trained and likely settled into some sort of routine.
Dog rescues are booming, but few focus on ‘elder pups.’ Here are two leading the way in Minnesota.
Grey Face Rescue and Retirement in St. Cloud and Top Dog Foundation in New Germany aim to give senior dogs the “most amazing second act.”
