I suppose I'm a progressive vegan nerd. I'm also a recovering sports enthusiast, a Royal Canadian Navy veteran, and a former Sea Shepherd sailor.
This is Penny. She was rescued from a Canadian egg farm after being discarded in a pile of manure once her body could no longer produce eggs at a profitable rate. She was broken, and almost featherless. This was her about a year later. She passed away in 2021 at @homeforhooves.bsky.social

Holy crap. So...uhh... this is actually worth the 92 minute watch (or listen). You will learn something about renewable energy,
... and its connection to government and society as a whole (especially for the US).

Canadians: Please sign this parliamentary petition to develop and fund non-animal medical testing. It's better for animals, of course, but will also be more efficient, accurate, and effective.

Now that the Vancouver Goldeneyes are on a bit of a roll, they are supposed to take the risky trip to Minnesota. Hey, maybe the Minnesota Frost home games could be played in Winnipeg for the next little while?

@pwhlgoldeneyes.bsky.social Izzy Daniel "fences" with Megan Keller and wins stick position for the GWG. There may be a lot of great moments like this to look forward to in sports and arts this year, so long as we don't have an apocalypse or societal collapse or something...

Uhh...so... to the senior ranks in the US military: How far do things have to go before you remember your oaths?
All I want for xmas is for our neighbours South of the border -especially senior ranks in the military, governments, and courts- to please take a deep breath, and work towards stability for yourselves and all of us around the world.

Typical Dionne/Emory interaction with the laundry basket. Kitties are funny.

For those about to do your holiday grocery shopping, please consider leaving animals off your shopping list. The breeding, exploitation, and slaughter of animals for food is brutal and wasteful. We can do better, and we can all be a small part of the solution.

Holy cow. Sarah Nurse is still injured. She's skating now, but if she's not game ready soon, the Goldeneyes might not recover in a short season.

I just watched a cute video of a farmer singing to two cute calves. I smiled for a moment, then checked the profile. It was not a sanctuary. It was a meat and dairy farm.

Humanity is so fundamentally messed up, I don't even know what to say.

Here's an interesting look into the people who drove the anti-CFIA narratives with regards to the ostrich farm. The CFIA has earned plenty of criticism, of course, but it's just so interesting the types of people who suddenly turned into animal rights activists...
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency locked down its social media accounts for weeks this spring because of a "spike in online abuse and threats," including "unauthorized sharing of employee images and deepfake content" prompted by the agency's ostrich cull.
Ostrich deepfakes and online threats forced agency to lock social media
The onslaught came immediately after a federal court judge ruled in May the agency could cull a herd of ostriches in Edgewood, BC, to control an avian flu outbreak. That court ruling fueled a months-l...
