I’ll be joining @friends-earth.bsky.social and others at Saturday’s demo with #StandUpToRacism. Hate is not welcome in London or anywhere else.
The far right are pointing attention to stopping the boats, whilst rising sea levels and extreme weather are decimating lives, homes and livelihoods. Hostile politicians and commentators have whipped up hatred, targeting refugees and migrants.

Reminder in this morning’s Politico email that the UK is still exporting F-35 fighter jet components to Israel. Write to David Lammy to ask for a full arms embargo now: action.friendsoftheearth.uk/target/tell-...

I’m in the market for reading material on the foundations of a resilient transport network - ideally with a UK focus or at least relevant here. I’m expecting there to be lots of learning from Covid-19 + response to extreme weather but not sure where to start.

Any recommendations gratefully received

The dishonesty is breathtaking. They know that immigration is vital for the economy, but double down on insulting immigrants to look tough. It’s pathetic.

I’ve been trying to give social media a wide berth but I am too furious. How dare politicians blame innocent people – who have worked hard at jobs that benefit us all and enriched our culture – for their failures? How can they call this “fair”?

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts.

Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

Well done to @friends-earth.bsky.social and @ekomovement.bsky.social campaigners for delivery of this important petition today. There are fewer than 800 of these incredible animals left alive – expansion of Jardine Matheson’s gold mine could push them into extinction.
Right now, a destructive gold mine expansion in Indonesia is threatening the world's rarest great ape, the Tapanuli orangutan.

We've joined forces with @ekomovement.bsky.social to deliver nearly 200,000 signatures to the mine’s parent company, Jardine Matheson, to demand it stops its expansion.

@friends-earth.bsky.social's @rosiedownes.bsky.social described the signal of support for Gatwick airport’s expansion as “totally bewildering” in the face of climate change.

She says: “Expanding Gatwick won’t deliver the growth needed"

Government ‘minded to approve’ Gatwick extension but final decision delayed
The government has said it is ‘minded to approve’ plans for the expansion of Gatwick Airport, but has delayed the deadline for a final decision.

On a more serious note, good to be able to talk to media about why airport expansion is a terrible idea – and not the way to the stronger economy that’s needed. Let’s get behind sustainable, green growth that’s good for people’s pockets and our planet.

Gave up staring at my phone over the holidays as I felt bad about how much I was using it in front of the kids. A positive experience for all of us, but apologies to my followers for the total dearth of content. Going to keep it up, though - hoping I can keep them off phones until they're 25 or so

Been watching COP29 with grim fascination. It’s like a cross between a fossil fuel trade fair and a gathering of officials whose objective is to avoid committing to a level of climate finance that would leave us with a fighting chance of tackling climate breakdown.

Ofgem’s energy price cap is out, and energy bills will rise again. These sky-high bills are largely caused by our heat-leaking homes. We can fix this – if the gov’s Warm Homes plan invests in insulating homes, lifting people out of hardship & protecting the planet.

Changes to energy price cap between 1 January and 31 March 2025
Every 3 months we review and set a level for how much an energy supplier can charge for each unit of energy and daily standing charge, under the price cap.
